A Mother Speaks Out Against Iraqi Conflict

<snip>LIN: Joining me from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is Sue Nederer. She is a member of a group called Military Families Speak Out. More importantly, she's the mother of a young man who died in the Iraq War. Her son, Seth Dvorin was there in the picture there, a young lieutenant.

Thank you very much for being with us tonight, Mrs. Nederer. I know it's -- you know when you were watching the piece along with me, I saw you in the monitor. And I could see as you were watching the reactions of those other parents, you know exactly how they feel. Seth, a young man who wanted to enlist, serve his country. You were married to a man, Seth's father, who believed in this war. And yet, so much has changed for you today?

<snip>LIN: Do you feel, as many families feel, that the government has lied to the American public about the number of injuries and the casualties, and perhaps even the death toll?

NEDERER: Absolutely. I believe that's one of the reasons why they do not permit anybody to go to Dover Air Force Base to meet their loved ones. I think there are a lot more that are coming in under the cover of darkness, that they don't want the American public to see. And in speaking with other members of the group, I -- it has come to enlightenment -- it has enlightened me to the fact that there are a lot more people who have been injured, also have mental problems at this point, depression, and in turn, are coming home, and then being sent right back into the same position that they were in prior.

LIN: You have evidence of this? Or is this just hearsay amongst the families?

NEDERER: Talk to the families, it's their children.

LIN: Mrs. Nederer, you know, some military families who have spoken out against the war, they're getting death threats. They're paying a price for being outspoken. Have you had any threats? Do you feel that you're paying a price for speaking your mind on this matter?

1. Kudos to Carol Lin for the interview

I was crying last night watching this grieving mother lamenting persecution for protesting the war. She seemed very sad, and most of all, numb. How could anyone not feel compassion?

Carol Lin: She actually listened to this woman tell her story.....didn't interrupt....didn't ask leading questions...didn't cut her off when it was looking bad for bushco.

2. I watched it too. A little after midnight here
Carol Lin did a great job. She actually looked like a journalist compared to most of the rest at CNN. It was a very powerful piece. I don't think CNN has been shown since then though?

3. I agree. It takes a really depraved individual to make a death threat.

It is the penultimate depravity to make it to the mother or father of someone who was sacrificed in this maladministration's pursuit of its delusional folly. Only dung sniffing, knuckle dragging psychopaths who can only fantasize about what it might be like to even resemble a normal human being engage in such perversity.

4. You know you're on the right side
when your side is getting death threats.

I always knew Repukes were crazy, but this is going WAY over the line. And we all need to be more careful - just like rabid dogs, when Repukes are cornered they are going to strike out any way they can. Because they don't care about anything except their own hides.

5. I'm not surprised.
They go "WAY over the line" on a regular basis. I remember a thread here awhile back with a link to FR. Breaking my usual rule, I went over there to find everyone having a big laugh-fest over the fact that people were sending toy bulldozers to Rachel Corrie's family.

How low does one have to be to do that? Yes, they are crazy.

6. Bush is just so disrespectful of our soldiers.
A sad era to be in.
