US to Blackmail Nations into Sending Troops to Afganistan!(CNN ticker)
Ticker on CNN states that 3 GOP congressmen are in Afghanistan right now and that they say that other nations have to send troops there right away and if they don't, they say the USA will withdraw troops in order to force them. My God...no wonder we are universally hated! And what about the Afghan people who we brought 'democracy' to (and all that crap). They are apparently going to be live bait to see if we can get "cooperation"! Looks like the world is just rushing to help us all over the place, doesn't it. And you know what, when some nation rushes in, Bush will go on TV and claim how he negotiated the whole thing and how much country X loves us. Quiet frankly, this smells of desperation. Bush and Company are, indeed, becoming desperate. How pathetic. Yep, we need four more years of Bush's brilliant foreign policy and ability to work with the international community.

1. How are they going to threaten to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan...
...when they want to have their big 'Spring Offensive™' coming up soon?

Whoops.

You see -- it's not just that the Bushes are imperialists. The biggest problem is that they just aren't any good at it.

3. htuttle...hmm, forgot about that
Is this their way of saying that Bush wants every goddamn soldier within a zillion miles looking for Osama so he can produce him before Nov. 04; and thus, because we are stretched so far we couldn't defend ourselves against squat if anything breaks out anywhere, they need to get other nations in there to keep the place together while we go on the Osama crusade?? Afganistan is another place that if troops aren't protecting it, it will just return to the same old, same old. Looks to me from the "ticker" that they have been trying to get other nations there, but, as usual, failed. We are really getting ourselves into a mess worldwide, aren't we?? Hope the wolf never really needs assistance in a real war because we are going to get the big Bronx salute from the world.

2. Yes they are desperate
but the other side not told.. the back of the US Army is BROKEN, and we may no longer have the capacity to go on the offensive.

By the way, is it getting drafty over your place?

8. It's going to get really interesting, whether they are
forced to face the draft issue before the election. Right
now I'm betting they don't have that much time. Even if they
start now, the lead time to get fresh troops on the ground
leaves you somewhere in 2005, and if they wait it's even later.

6. Killarny--it came over the ticker about 3:00 p.m.
Just realized that I may have been watching MSNBC--keep flipping back and forth---but I think it was the CNN ticker. No news story. Just the ticker. Would love to hear them do some sort of reporting on this. Like who are the wonderful 3 republican congressgoons over there????? What Mafia mentality; but then again, what do you expect from this crowd?

7. withdraw troops from where?
Why would threatening to withdraw them from Afghanistan do anything? Are they saying that we will have to withdraw our troops from other bases to send them to Afghanistan? If we close bases in Europe, then that would have a financial impact on those countries and areas with US troops and money flowing in. Is that the threat? This makes no sense.
