Did the attack in Spain play right into the Republican hands?
I don`t know what it is but this attack just seemed to come at the right time for the republicans. All the right wing radio wacko`s were jumping all over this with Boortz saying that it you vote for Kerry then you are a terrorist and support terrorism. I`m not saying that this was planned by anyone other than a terrorist group but damn, it`s strange.
The radio right wing all say in their talking points that Bush has to be reelected to save us from terrorism. Even the Limbag said that if this country is attacked again, Bush would be a shoe-in. I think it would be the other way around. Bush failed to do his job that the republicans say is the very reason this country needs him.
A republican co-worker said that we needed Bush also that the democrats would not do anything to protect us. To that I replied with the question, did he agree that the country changed after 9/11? He said yes it did. I said then how do you know that the democrats can`t protect America? He had no answer.

2. Bloooowbaaaack
It didn't help the Spanish Conservatives.

It won't work again. You'd have to conclude that either Bush had failed to increase security enough here, or failed in the war on terrorism abroad, or, well, both. But how could it make him look good AGAIN?

5. I thought it would help the Popular Party
I assumed that the Spanish were the same breed of voters as many of us (not DUers, Americans in general) who run to their daddy figure and pass the buck of thinking whenever in danger. I was wrong.

4. It's a win win for the repugs they will just spin it one way or the
other to fit their agenda. Don't bother trying to use logic with this crowd, they are so twisted they think Jesus was a right wing Nazi bigot just like them. Anyone who can twist "Thou shalt not Kill" into friendly fire and collateral damage can justify anything.

6. No, and the Goopers have gone into panic mode
The screaming heads of the right have stepped up the terrorism rhetoric because they're afraid. Chimpy's poll numbers continue to slide, and Spain was the first outright rejection of warmongering neocon ideology.

The wingnuts are starting to read the writing on the wall about their chances in November. They're stepping up the fear rhetoric because they know that Bush has no merits to run on.

7. Well capturing Saddam sure made Spain a lot safer didn't it?
They are starting to howl. They know now that their ship is sinking and no matter how hard they try to sink ours it won't save theirs. They have made the world a much less safe place and all know it.

8. They already have a talking point.

The terrorists won because the terrorist attack scared the people into not supporting Aznar and Bush. Now the terrorists will attack targets in Britian and Australia to get those voters to repudiate Howard and Blair.

I'm a little bit scared :scared: because this makes some kind of perverted sense to me.

A bit of help, scare me straight somebody please?????????

10. But that's NOT what happened
The Spanish voters didn't turn on Aznar because they were scared by the bombings.

For one thing, the PP was expected to take a serious hit in this election in any case, they just lost bigger than expected.

And most Spanish voters who have talked to the media about why they voted against the PP specifically cite the fact that they thought the government was lying to them about the bombings, not the bombings themselves, as motivation for heir votes. Aznar tried to pin the attacks on the ETA. The majority of voters actually were taking the anti-Al Qaeda position and punished Aznar for prevaricating for his party's political benefit.

11. Aznar was going to lose regardless
90% of Spaniards opposed the war in Iraq. In ignoring the will of the people, Aznar made his country a target for retaliation from the people he decided to attack, and because of it, 200 innocent people died.

The Spanish election was a repudiation of neocon warmongering and the drumming from offfice of a Bush toady.

9. It doesn't help the GOP
If anything, it underlines the incompetence of Bush's "war on terrorism".

12. I don't think so.
It shows that Al Qaeda is alive and well. It highlights that the Iraq War was not about terror, but about oil and politics. The Iraq War has eaten up resources that we should be using against terrorists. Afghhanistan should have been given top priority, but the corporate cabal was in such aa goddam hurry to conquer weak and WMD-free Iraq.

13. Bushco and the sheep.
They will spin anything. It really doesn't matter what they say or think. They will vote for Bushco no matter what. Debating with them is a waste of time and energy. It's the "Undecided" voters and the Dems that will determine the outcome of the next Natl US election. If the Dems come out in force and vote for Kerry and a large % of "Undecides" also vote for Kerry, escpecially in Ohio, the election will be won by Kerry.

15. IMO the Right is behind the bombings, but

they are not getting the desired effect. That is because the world is savvy to the diabolical nature of the Bush regime.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/15/international/europe/15POLI.html>

Only last week several senior members of the administration said they fully expected that his conservatives would emerge victorious.
In fact, months ago a senior adviser to Mr. Bush predicted that should a terrorist attack occur in Europe, it would probably drive the Europeans closer to the United States and its approach to the campaign against terror, not away from it.
