Al Qaeda likes to target things that are a national symbol like the WTC. And when you think Australia the first thing that comes to my mind is

1. It's too low, much less easy to damage.

You have to enter by air or boat so the country is therefore a lot more secure than either Europe or America.

5. there was just news this morning about Australia cracking down

on unlicensed/certified boats within their waters. I thought it more of a protection against terror than anything else.
