5. blogging often involves debate and discussion
people post a report and others usually reply or take issue and there are questions asked and other things. it's not something republicans do often.

8. also, i think blog= web log
you keep a log, but it's on the web, so someone combined it to call it a blog. i think that's how the word "blog" came about.
