Dean rallies SF supporters to kick off new advocacy organization

03-17) 14:59 PST SAN FRANCISCO (AP) --

Howard Dean, whose Internet-fueled grass roots campaign propelled him to the front of the Democratic presidential field before John Kerry derailed his candidacy, will rally supporters in San Francisco on Thursday to help launch a new advocacy group.

The new group will promote Kerry's campaign against President Bush and help recruit other Democrats to run for elective office.

Dean formally will kick off the new organization, Democracy for America, in Seattle on Thursday morning before traveling to San Francisco later in the day. A third rally, in New York, is planned for Friday.

"California is Howard Dean country, and the Bay Area could lay claim to being its capital," said Jude Barry, Dean's California campaign director. "We have very dedicated supporters here who will continue to support his next effort

3. Web site to launch after midnight
The real winners, Trippi said, were the hundreds of thousands of Dean supporters "because they were the ones who used the Internet. This is just the tip of an iceberg."

4. California is Dean country?
Last time I checked, Kerry won California by a landslide. But kudos to Dean and his supporters for doing their part to beat Bush.
