McCain says Kerry is not weak on defense
McCain says Kerry is not weak on defense
By Associated Press
Thursday, March 18, 2004

Republican Senator John McCain is speaking up in defense of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry .

McCain tells NBC he doesn't believe that Kerry is ``necessarily weak on defense'' -- even though he says they disagree on some issues.

He must be really mad at Bush, now he is sticking up for Kerry after he endorsed Bush. I'm loving this LOL.

3. Thats why....
I do not understand why McCain keeps saying without seeing any of the evidence yet as a member of that so-called "independent" commission looking into the Iraq's pre-war WMD, that Bush did not mislead.....

5. I don't blame him for being pissed at bush*.
McCain was shredded and spit out by the bush* attack machine. You don't expect that crap from your own team.

8. It's called "reaping what you sow"...

I'm sorry that any disagreement with the illustrious Chimp-in-Chief is put down as being a "sore loser" by you.

Typical, though.

11. Wrong. He is telling it like it is. He tends to do that
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 10:50 AM by havocmom
I lived in AZ for a long time and really didn't have much complaint with him as my senator. Disagree with some of his positions on some issues but he generally kept an open mind.

More than the 2000 primaries against the shrub*, I think he just has trouble with the lock step the current GOP leadership requires. He knows that to serve his consitiuants, he cannot let neocons dictate adgenda on every issue. He was a bit of a maverick long before Rove started attacking him. Neocons hate him for his freedom.

20. Try replacing "like a sore loser" with
"painfully aware of what kind of people make up the B*sh Administration"

He was robbed in South Carolina. They didn't open half the polling places. Then they push polled people. On top of that they made calls saying he had an illegitimate black baby and that his wife is a crackhead. He adopted a child from Bangledesh and his wife a pain killer addiction that she kicked.

4. I would love to see this replayed over and again by the media!
Ha! KKKKarl Rove must be pissed as hell, not to mention Cheney. Smirk is probably too insulated to have heard about this.

Sometimes I wonder if McCain has multiple personalities. C'mon, Senator McCain, you know you want to endorse Kerry!!!

7. he has hit up against bush lies in past
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 10:54 AM by seabeyond
he has not been a lap dog these last couple years. he contridicted bush in handling of iraq and other things. i dont think mccain sounds like a whiner or loser, and i think a lot of people in his party listen to him, and after the run against bush and what bushco did to him in s carolina he took it, and i think he got a lot of respect from his people for that and not going after bush for what they did

i dont mind a man who has spent time in pow statis to come out and say kerry is not soft on defense

i think this is a good thing

9. He was also stumping for Bush
Senator McCain is one of the few Republicans who is not an asshole. He is saying Kerry is not weak on defense because it is the truth. McCain is not lapdog for Bush, he is a maverick Republican. He's not a loser, but I don't blame him if he is pissed off at Bush.

If you ask me, Bush is the weakest on defense because people hate America more now that he is pushing his fascist foreign policy.

19. The maverick theme got mishandled by the Gingrich trained parrots.
when they marginalized him back in the 90s because he would not parrot the neocons' memes. The neocons could not make him toe the line so they stated attacking him long before the shrubistas started campaigning in 2000. His spine was plenty stiff by the time Rove took a crack at him.

He has a record of trying very hard to create win-win situations with legislation written with Dem colleagues. That shows me he just might have the well being of the total nation in mind a good part of the time. He is not one to go the derisive tactics of the Gingrich school.
When I get frustrated with my Dem senator, I write McCain and get more thoughtful responses than the form letters indicating no one in my senator's office is really listening.

More of a patriot than anyone in the administrations of either Bush or bush*. Yeah, I'm talkin to you, Olly North! McCain didn't race around the world subverting the intent of Congress and/or national law. He did work toward the goal of getting big money out of the halls of government.

McCain coming out to defend Kerry at a time when the mystique is wearing off the neocons' image machine is a very good thing. Moderate and old time traditional Republicans will listen to him and not just respond to Rove talking points like mindless drones.

10. That's great. It's little messages like this that can
push some moderate Republicans to vote for Kerry because Bush is too far right. Moderate Republicans love McCain and trust his word.

12. McCain keeps stirring the pot...
...but I'm not sure what he's cooking. He has been a thorn in the side of the neo-cons for many years now, with his biggest offense being the dogged pursuit of campaign finance reform. The RNC hates him for that. But let's not forget that he is still one of the biggest defenders of Ronald Reagan, and that is where all of todays BS was born. So how can he say Reagan was a great president and yet undermine his political progeny? If I remember correctly, it was McCain who proposed the legislation to rename National Airport after Reagan. I'll never forgive him for that unless he repudiates his support for politics of the 80's.

Despite all that, he definitely keeps things interesting. Everything he does reminds me of when he bombed his own aircraft carrier in Vietnam. It burned for two days and killed lots of service men. I'm not blaming him, it's just what he does. He's kind of like the one eyed, deaf, three legged and neutered dog that goes by the name 'Lucky.'

15. McCain is...
I'm not sure what to make of him except that he's not a neocon.

I do think that McCain has multiple personalities, however. If anyone should get the "flip-flop" label, it's him. He stumped for Bush, yet endorsed Kerry's defense proposals.

I think the man is seriously wondering about his party affiliation...maybe he signed on the wrong bandwagon. Be great to see another Jim Jeffords.

I would welcome him if he switched. Kucinich was pro-life and people love him. McCain is a powerful figure and I would love to have him.

16. Bombed his own aircraft carrier?
That's outrageous. You have any proof? If I remember, his plane exploded or he had a bad landing. I don't think he bombed his own carrier. That's freeper quality material.

13. ""Kerry Weak on Defense""
That, my friends, will be the number 1 talking point from the republicans. They will send their talking heads on radio and tv everyday to parrot this. We all know the repiglicans will believe this but hopefully Independents will ignore these bastards.

22. They can 'talking point' all they want. We just need to show their record
for no bid contracts to companies which are leaving our troops without the supplies they need. Also need to play up their cuts to veteran's' care. Show that the amount of money voted for is not the issue. How the money is spent is. The GOP uses the argument that throwing money at a problem doesn't fix schools. We can turn that argument to their record of throwing defense dollars to their corporate campaign contributor does not really 'support the troops'.

We have to stop them from holding the talking stick. Take the microphone in hand and recite their record. Do this often.

McCain is a very good asset to this end. His opinions on military support are valued by many.

I don't fully trust McCain - he seems to go from one side of an issue to another. But i respect and appreciate his support - which may move soft Republicans to vote for Kerry.
