Media Racism?: Courtney Love v. Janet Jackson
Looks like crudeness from white girls is swallowed if not celebrated in this country...

What Janet did was tasteful by comparison...

1. That is a good point...
Although Love is always hammered for what she does. But hmm, I bet it would be even worse if she was African-American.

9. Jackson was being castigated...called "obscene"
Love was being treated like it was funny..."ha-ha...she's at it again"

I think its pathetic that CBS even let that air...its like making fun of a person who is clearly mentaly ill.

Whats next CBS? A show where you get retards drunk and watch them screw? This is about the same...

I take it you're no fan of Hioward Stern then.

5. Yes, the same, sorry double standards
Madonna was(is) also way cruder and offensive and unsufferably pretentious. Janet just showed some titty she didn't "make a statement" ! No bad press for Justin either who surely was in on it , the black press and public ,however, have revoked his "ghetto pass" for cutting bait and running and showing his true colours! Further, remember how any black hip hop artist is a terrible homophobe and sexist, yet Eminem was feted to the heavens. He was "smart" and "ironic". Apparently black hip hop artists, like simple natives, are incapable of such "sophistication"?! The white press was so fond of him they could hardly help aping the same stereotypical language once reserved for white basketball players eg., Eminem is skilfull, intelligent as opposed to the black rappers' raw power and energy! Of course, he was the great white hope the Beastie Boys were 10 years ago.

12. Madonna and Emimem didn't take heat?!?
What the heck were you reading?!? Madonna took TONS of bad press and Eminem was chastised all over for being a homophobe. You couldn't miss these things unless you didn't want to hear them.

7. Courtney Love is a joke on drugs
I was surprised to see Janet Jackson's breast but I was even more surprised about the uproar it created.

I don't know if it had something to do with racism. She had millions of people with their children watching her live show.

Courtney Love doesn't have this great an audience and because of her constant (mis-)behavior is not really taken seriously.

8. I think it was also seen as an opportunity
to beat up another Jackson family member in the spotlight, especially in light of Michael's current events

10. Nope
There's no reason to believe that Love wouldn't have been crucified if she'd done that during the Superbowl. The event at which she did it was the main issue to people.

11. Possible double standard....
but I don't know. It wasn't the Super Bowl and it was orginally on after 11pm.

"Looks like crudeness from white girls is swallowed if not celebrated in this country..."

Courtney Love is indeed crude

"What Janet did was tasteful by comparison..."

Courtney Love flashed her boobs while apparently loaded. Janet did a montage of sexual violence against women ending with a guy tearing her clothes off. It wasn't the tit that bothered me but what led to the tit. Neither woman has a claim on "taste"

Even then I think the FCC has overreacted.

Courtney Love was arrested this morning in New York and charged with reckless endangerment and third degree assault after allegedly throwing a microphone stand that struck a man in the head...

The incident...followed a bizarre appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman...Love stood on Letterman's desk, sang a few lines from "Danny Boy" and bared her breasts...several...during the show.

...(The day before) she was in a Los Angeles courtroom, where she faces felony drug possession counts from an arrest last October. Love's behavior at Wednesday's hearing was described as erratic...

Love (was) in town to promote her solo debut America's Sweetheart...

Mrs. Norman Maine, she ain't.

16. Nonsense.
People have come to expect that type of thing from Courtney Love. Because it was a taped show, not a live performance, the offending flesh was censored.

Courtney has always been a bad girl, and if you think she hasn't gotten bad press for it, tthink again. But, as someone else pointed out, Courtney has never performed to audiences the size of the superbowl audience. Don't you think there's a reason she's never been asked to?
