A brief report from today's edition of the Library Journal Academic Newswire, a weekly e-mail sent around to librarians:
LIBRARY GROUPS SUPPORT CHALLENGE TO GOVERNMENT SECRECY
Four library associations, including the American Library Association, have joined a friends-of-the-court brief challenging Vice-President Dick Cheney's refusal to disclose the names of those non-governmental participants in his National Energy Policy Development Group.

Participants in the brief include the American Association of Law Libraries, the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for American Progress, Common Cause, the National Security Archive, People for the American Way, the Society of American Archivists, and the Special Libraries Association.
They argue that "public participation in government can be meaningful only if the people know what officials are doing, and how they are doing it."
