Graves of Saddam's sons robbed

Awja, Iraq - Two Iraqi flags covering the earthen graves of Saddam Hussein's slain sons were stolen in the night directly under the noses of US soldiers guarding the cemetery in the fallen dictator's birthplace.

Some bricks had been placed around the hard-dirt mounds where the bodies had been laid to rest in a low-key ceremony on Saturday, which US troops barred onlookers from joining.

US soldiers searched cars on Sunday as they left the grounds and said they had seen no one remove the Iraqi flags.

Residents of Saddam's birthplace, meanwhile, complained about the presence of US soldiers and said they would not visit as long the foreign troops guarded the plot, which the coalition fears could become a rallying point for Saddam loyalists.

2. My guess
Our guys are keeping a low profile over there. If someone wants the damn flags let them have them. We have had enough martyrs of our own.

3. The accusation appears to be
that the soldiers had taken them because no one else could get close. Letting that impression stand only makes it more dangerous for our soldiers.

4. I am still scratching my head as to why the US military is guarding graves
I understand that the military fears the graves could become a rallying point for Saddam loyalists and all. But are they going to guard these graves into perpetuity?
