Should I have told this woman what I _really_ think?
Just mailed off this "letter to the editor". What do y'all think? Did I go too far or not far enough?

Reading some recent letters in the Enterprise, I am amazed at the points made by some “educated people.” Take Brenda Wilhelm’s proof that George W. Bush justly made war. In her own words: “Duh, 1-2-3, A-B-C, he justly made war.”

Ms. Wilhelm, such erudite wisdom may, and certainly seems to, satisfy the not-so-inquiring minds of some of Bush’s sheeplike supporters who rival the barnyard cast of George Orwell’s Animal Farm in their unquestioning acceptance of the powers-that-be.

The questionable “justification” is not regarding the “war on terror”, as Wilhelm implies, but America’s attack upon Iraq. The truth is the Bush administration used lies and distortions to promote war; totally abominable and unacceptable.

Wilhelm offers no proof in asserting that Republicans are more representative of all Americans’ interests; understandable, since their economic policies are more dramatically pro-rich than they have been in decades. Perhaps Wilhelm considers widening the gap between the rich and the poor part of “creat a better America.”

Bush calls himself a “uniter” not a “divider” but succeeds at both. Polls show him to be the most divisive President in modern history among Americans, while he has managed to unite most of the world against us.

He succeeds in uniting Americans in fear. His skill at fearmongering is the only attribute his administration will be remembered for when history judges his abysmal leadership.

Regarding Wilhelm’s assertion that God’s will determines Bush’s Presidential status, I ask, “Who died and made Bush’s cronies on the United States Supreme Court God?”

For the purpose of helping this exchange make sense, this is the letter I was responding to. (The writer starts by attacking a great Democrat's letter from a few days ago.):

Unlike Democrats, Republicans are for people of all classes

Mervin Primeaux's letter of March 10 begs for some type of medical care. It seems he has far more in common with the French than just his last name. Who cares what he, or the Dixie Chicks, think?

It is because of President Bush that I wish I were a true Texan. President Bush waited several days, giving those guilty of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks time to surrender before he justly made war. Again, for all of those who still have air in their heads, duh, 1-2-3, A-B-C, he justly waged war.

By the way, two thumbs up and cheers to Jim Sell in the same issue. Years and years ago, before my parents were old enough to vote, the Republicans were for the rich and the Democrats were for the working class.

However, times have changed, and they have done a flip-flop. Most Republicans are for people of all classes to create a better America, while the anything-goes, free-ride-seeking, just-to-get-a-vote Democrats are for No. 1 only.

Sadly, until people educate themselves in the political arena, they will die with their outdated views.

But the greatest hope educated people have is knowing that no matter what lies are told about our president, if it is God's will, Bush will be in office again!

Oh yeah, this "gem" was in the same edition:

Remember God has control in guiding President Bush

I am tired of the "Bush-bashing." There is an election coming up and you can vote as you see fit, but let me remind you that God is in control. President Bush would not be in office if it was not the will of God. In Isaiah, God (through Isaiah) said 200 years before it happened that his man Cyrus would enable his people to return from captivity. (Isaiah 45:1-4)

You may ask why did he let Adolf Hitler gain power? I don't know. God says His ways and thoughts are not ours. (Isaiah 55:8) I do know this: Because of the persecutions, the Jewish people started returning to Israel and became a nation. They are still his people as are Christians.

Instead of bashing, let us as a nation pray for President Bush to be led by God. What's so hard about that?

2. Beautiful Line

Great letter.

3. If you used that same Biblical logic to say Clinton was God's man
I wonder if they'd even risk printing it. I can hear the howling it would cause all the way in NC.

5. If God put Bush in power he also put in Clinton?
Shall I go on with the list? I once in a while put on talk radio and they have the same logic. It would not pass Logic 101. The new one is Kerry must tell all yet the WH will not tell us what it is doing.Bush is our man of fibs.I swear these are the same people who would be a Jonestown. They just will not think for them selfs.

Unfortunately neither one of the letter writers will understand WTF you are talking about, reasoning with closed minds is a waste of time.

7. ummm..
bush isn't a true Texan either. Carpetbagger born in Connecticut, educated at private schools like Phillips Exeter Academy, and family donated his way to Yale and Harvard (despite being turned down by the University of Texas at Austin). Texas is convienent for him due to taxes and electoral votes. He is NOT a Texan.

9. Yeah, I wanted to mention that...
Just mentioning Shrub's "Connecticut Yankee" background would have really gotten them up-in-arms, but I felt like I was already making too many points, and "letters to the editor" have to be 250 words or less in my paper, etc. That is a good point, though. His cowboy shtick really grates on me, though, and I'm a native Texan- I think he gives us a bad name.

13. How true
Bush is not a Texan. Bush* makes no secret that his favorite sport is baseball... however, any true Texan's first love is for football. High school football, college football, spring football, football recruiting, then the NFL. Somewhere a little farther down the list, after Tom Landry's hat, is baseball.

8. Next time, don't hold back
Just kidding--very well done! We have here no end of freeper-sheeple who think that Bush* has some sort of divine mandate and they can't understand why people are angry at him. The ones that are angry seem to be the ones who have lost jobs, insurance benefits, and the "little" things that Bush's* rich contributors don't have to worry about.

For whatever reason, those people don't get it.
