If you are a Gore Supporter, please read this!
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 11:01 PM by dems4america
We have just posted a form where you can sign up if you will support President Gore in 2004 if he is drafted or re considers. It asks for you name, email, and how much you will pledge. The draft Gore people did a pledge drive earlier this year and got over $500,000 in a short period. Please sign it if you will support Al. Also why you are at the forum, consider becoming a part of the Gore community!

88. Is this from the Republican Party?
Wherever this bring Gore back campaign is coming from is basically another distraction used to keep us from committing to another candidate and designed to keep us in limbo.

I adore Al Gore and I worked on the Gore campaign as a volunteer, but he's not coming back, and we need to focus on the present, and the issues at hand, and not allow this agenda driven Gore is coming back and so is Godot campaign to sidetrack us.

I consider every thread, whether its the influx of transparent anti- Dean threads or any other counter-productive threads to be started by those wishing to create chaos and invite more pointless debate. Real Dems don't attempt to sidetrack each other from the issues or grand stand. They work to unite, get focused and see the bigger picture of a healthier, more honest political system.

29. Scared of what?
Personally the only thing that scares me is another 4 year of George W. Bush.

I put no credit in these polls that show Al Gore ahead of the other democrats. It's simple to explain - Al Gore has name recognition, which is something that these other candidates are working on getting. The polls that are important are the ones that show Bush having 46% of the people polled saying he should be re-elected again. (and the democratic - no name given - was at 47%).

Bill Clinton had absolutely no name recognition back in 1991, seems that didn't affect his ability to get elected as president. As for the "Pledges" - $500,000 isn't much knowing this is not committed real money. For all we know, freepers could have infiltrated and pledged large sums of money just to amuse people.

Al Gore gave a heartfelt speech when he spoke about why he wasn't going to run for president. It saddened me to hear him not run, but I respected his decision. Personally, at this point if he jumped back into the race I think he'd look pretty dumb and to me, Al Gore never seemed like a person I would call "Dumb".

I think we have a great slate of candidates out there for us to choose from and our time and money could be better served by helping get one of these candidates elected president. Al Gore will serve a very important role in our country but probably not as a candidate for 2004 election.

Edited on Mon Aug-04-03 01:43 AM by nu_duer
Gore won the last election (despite the rw media and Naderites) and he'll win the next one if he gets in.

Its almost like some here think he has no right to join the race at this point. What's up with that?

I have no money to pledge at present, but you can be sure I would donate time and effort if he gets back in, and I for one hope the hell he does.

Don't be put off by those who would respond to a "Gore supporters.." thread only to ridicule. I don't get it. Gore supporters will fall in to support the Dem nom if Gore doesn't get in, what possible harm is there in trying?

A lot of people here support Gore.

Personally, I'll vote for any Dem over bush, and I DO like Dean, but Gore, if we can get him, is the one.

I'll be making sure that Al's campaign (if one ever happens) sees this thread so they can see just what a great job you're doing.

And yes, saying someone "needs to go out and get hung" IS a threat. The mods thought so when they removed it, and so do the rest of us.

Hello,

I belong to a Democratic website called DemocraticUnderground.com. We welcome all progressive types for discussion and gatherings, and we are 30,000 members strong.

One of your support team (named CJ), has been incredibly disruptive towards anybody and everybody who is not fully behind Mr. Gore. I personally will vote for anybody but Bush, whoever is on the Democratic ticket. But I must tell you, this person makes it VERY hard to feel good about your website and your cause when this is the representative you have in our forums.

Calling people names and attacking them at every turn does not make your website look appetizing.

Thanks,
A concerned Democrat

P.S. Here is a link so you can see the immature behavior of CJ. (link included)

67. Again, The short version of the DU rules says....
2. Treat people with respect. Don't be rude or bigoted. Discuss the message, not the messenger.

AWD, you posted to a thread that asked Al Gore supporters (something you obviously are NOT) to respond to and you have over 21 responses! Hmmm, that's got to say something about your motives! Now in those posts you've said,
In post 6, Anybody notice...

...how this guy's sig graphic always leans to the right???"

Seems like an attack on the messenger to me! LOL!

In post 11, "I pledge 4 billion to Gore!

I donated 130 dollars so far to Dean.

Seems just plain disruptive of another DUers post.

In post 14, "Case in point, I'm really not at all interested in Al Gore anymore. I really want him to NOT run just so this guy shuts up."

Gee, another attack on the messenger! :)

In post 12, "...he has a new environmental plan.

He's going to keep the same stick up his butt rather than change it every day. This way, he can save an entire rainforest every 3.2 years."

(Shows where you are really at!)

In post 25, "You are dangerous and scary....please, get help. Join a different type of support group than the Al Gore one. Your cavalier attitude about lynching is frightening."

Gee, yet another attack on the messenger! :)

In post 36, "hearts and minds", huh??

Way to win them over for Al. I'm sure he'll love your undying support of calling Democrats names constantly.

Plus, you're really showing how much of a nadult you are."

OOPS, another attack on the messenger! :)

In post 41, "It is you...

...who is out of touch here. He spelled it "moran" because it comes from a pro-war picture where the guy spelled "moron" wrong.

You'd know that if you could pay attention to anything but your own self-absorbed competitions."

Yet another attack on a DUer who never asked for your opinion in this thread! :)

In post 52, " Dude, it was YOU

..who called people names.

It was YOU who used the word 'childish' to describe on several occasions.

It was YOU who attacked over and over again.

And what happened to "I can keep this up all night"?

I'll be making sure that Al's campaign (if one ever happens) sees this thread so they can see just what a great job you're doing.

And yes, saying someone "needs to go out and get hung" IS a threat. The mods thought so when they removed it, and so do the rest of us.

What can I say to that but LOL! :)

Post 56, your 'snitch' post is a classic! But what sets it apart is the attack on a DUer at the end, "P.S. Here is a link so you can see the immature behavior of CJ. (link included)" ROFLMAO!

Post 59 is a GEM! "Ummmm.....

I have not called anyone names like you claimed. Unless you are referring to me calling you childish.

I didn't do it, except for the time I did.

Is that what you're saying????
Too funny!

Post 62 is the best yet!!! " I suppose...

...that part about personal attacks and name calling in the DU rules should be ignored???
You've been doing a great job of it so far!

Now what's really strange is that in the same thread as you post #12 where you talk about Als new Environmental plan you also say....

I will proudly support Gore, should he run and win the primary.

But I refuse to be swayed by bashers and attackers who can't see that they're being rude and insensitive to other people's first choice.
This guy is way over the line, and it makes me care even less about Al Gore.

I could keep going but it's hard to read with the tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! Just who do you think you're kidding? :)

Couldnt have said it better. I come here to post Gore info and get ridiculed. I can tout him all I want. It does not matter if he is un announced or not. Wonk nor AWD make the rules, so dont listen to them. The fact is they are the ones that are out of line.

79. I agree of most of what you said....
I don't understand the replies that are just mean. as I see it MY VOTE WAS STOLEN by the current administration. and I don't take that lightly. I sit and read how nasty most (not all) dean supporters are. I believe dean would welcome gore back in the race, for good competition. but it seems some of his followers don't want the competition. It still is america (the last I looked) and anyone who wants to enter or reenter have at it. go gore. I hope he is drafted.

....as long as you HONESTLY have it to pledge!
But just asking the question to be cute like others above have is just plain disruptive to the purpose DU was set up for. Just read and follow the rules and this place will work as the perfect forum to organize a Democratic victory in 2004, no matter who runs as the Democratic candidate. Keep letting this kind of disruptive BS to occur and DU will become just another down rev server available on the auction block courtesy of another failed .com! JMHO!

Escpecially when he said he would not run in 2004.

I'd vote for Gore again, but I have to say I'm a bit leary of a Gore run.

75. These Flame Threads Are Very Sad
Edited on Mon Aug-04-03 07:24 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
and before I'm called a hypocrite I have been sucked into a few myself.

Every board I have perused has the flamers from the Miami Herald's Dolphins board to Yahoo's stock tracking board to this one.

Cept at the other boards usually one's sexuality is the topic du jour.
At this board it's your ideology.

Disagree with someone. Accuse him of being a freeper and the debate's over.

And, as someone who has met Al and Tipper and worked actively in his 00 campaign I am profoundly saddened by the ad hominem attacks on him.

Not only is Al Gore a good Democrat and American. He is a good guy.

77. I don't understand the resistance...
...to having the winner of the last election run again in 2004. What kind of sense does it make to reject a known winner?

- I wonder: does the Democratic party have a sort of death wish? Have they succumbed to the propaganda of the right? What's the deal with all this anti-Gore crapola?

78. Gore in 2004 , if you want to win !
Thats the bottom line ! Apprently here at D/U ,Democrat Underground , oh wait a minute maybe Iam at the wrong site ? Dean Underground ,yea thats more fitting ! Gore is not only way more qualified then any of the others .He would instantly ,add excitement the Dems have not felt since Clinton won in 92&96. Who would not want to see Gore being sworn in ,as bush watches. Gore will win in 2004 and he will be Drafted at the convention ! Or Dean,Kerry or anyone of the others will be picked and bush will finally be able to claim he won the election .I like the frist choice. Go ahead flame away ,us Gore supporters are tough as can be,and we wont be discouraged.

80. With respect, I think people are tired of the smugness.
Some people, well, just post inappropriately. It's one thing to say “my candidate is going to win” and back it up with lots of interesting facts. It's another thing to make broad generalizations and slam other candidates without any merit...

I agree that there is no problem with Gore running again, but I also agree that people need to lay off the attitudes.

Disagree with someone. Accuse him of being a freeper and the debate's over.

It's funny how you're insinuating that it's the Gore supporters who are being accused of being "freepers."

Because in my experience, it's been the other way around...some of the most rabid Gore supporters are the ones who accuse anyone who disagrees with them of being a "freeper."

And for your information, not everyone adores Al Gore, because we're familiar with his bad public conduct. We also don't appreciate partisans telling us that we've been "brainwashed" by the media just because we have a different opinion of their candidate.

93. That's not what I said!
I only advise everyone to get behind the candidate that would best represent them! Nothing more, nothing less! :)
If you happen to feel that a candidate that has no problem with allowing things like the Patriot Act to stand best represent you, then it is your right to back that candidate. PERIOD!

Which issues each of us consider most important to our selection of a candidate will naturally vary, however should the Democratic party eventually front a candidate who feels that I must surrender some of my basic rights for some perceived 'security' then I will decline to vote for that candidate. PERIOD! That is my right and responsibility!

The Democratic party has, for as long as I've been voting, been the party of the People. They have consistently stood up for the basic rights of the People. At this time as our rights are being eroded, and basic American ideals like the right to due process are being denied to people, not just in America, but in other sovereign nations by Americans! Our responsibility to choose our representatives has never been more important.

If the eventual Presidential nominee from the Democratic party does not stand up for the basic freedoms that we are all afforded by the Constitution, then I will not vote for that candidate. Sorry! :(
I don't see the ABB (Anybody But Bush*) crowd as being much different from the NBB (Nobody But Bush*) crowd! Just the other extreme.

For the time being there's still plenty of time for the candidates to make their platforms and priorities clear. I'll sit out the 'your candidate is a nazi' threads and instead continue to work towards getting people involved in taking back their right to see that their votes are counted and how they are counted. With the amount of Americans who were 'accidentally' disenfranchised in the most recent elections numbering in the hundreds of thousands and millions more casting ballots that can not be guaranteed, I'll focus my attention on that issue first. At risk of being labeled a 'Bevbot' by others on this board, I'll still continue to work behind the scenes 80-90 hours a week to help the people 'TAKE BACK THE VOTE'. By making it easier for others to let their elected representatives know what changes they want, we can make a difference before 2004! :)

Without some way to know for sure if the will of the majority is really being carried out, what difference does it really make who you back?

Common sense and human nature should tell you that some of the wealthy and powerful will always do everything in their power to obtain more of both unless they are held in check by the government passing and enforcing laws for the protection of the people. That is the primary reason that Al Gore is still my preferred representative. He has turned down repeated opportunities to receive financial backing from powerful industry lobbies and instead fought for the rights of the people. Check out his record or better yet, get the book You Say You Want A Revolution by Reed Hundt, available through Yale University Press. You can read the Preface and first chapter by clicking on the link above.

I would continue but I have more important things to do right now and I'm not here to sell others on how they should think. I'm only attempting to explain how I think. :)

My parting thought is that there has never been a better time for a massive GOTV campaign targeting the 50% of eligible voters who have just given up on trying to make a difference! I just wish that all of the hours I see wasted flaming each others candidates were devoted to registering eligible voters and contacting our representatives demanding they stop trying to 'lead' us and that they represent us instead! :)
