Democracy Now! is particularly good today
Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 09:32 AM by deutsey
Looks back on the year since the US invasion of Iraq. Interviews a former Marine who served in Iraq and will be protesting tomorrow, a soldier on leave from Iraq who is voicing his opposition to the occupation (albeit anonymously), and Christopher Parenti, Nation journalist who was embedded in Iraq and who got into trouble with the News Hour on PBS for being an "unbalanced" journalist.

Rebroadcast on KPFA at noon EST (www.kpfa.org)

1. Listening right now
Considering my personal situation, it's particularly "grabbing".

Parenti up right now, actually encouraging the unnamed soldier to resist going back like the recent FLNG soldier.

This all is pretty much in line with what I heard in a program on Military Law at the New York Law School. The head speaker -- a military lawyer for over 25 years -- said that dissent within the ranks is kind of like a "pressure cooker" right now, and the Pentagon is allowing just enough steam to be released to keep the whole situation from blowing up.

5. That was disgusting about the News Hour!!
Just gotta have on government spokeman after government spokesman who all repeat the same line(opinion), but can't have on a person who can actually speak from personal experience and time on the ground in Iraq(fact.)

HOW LOW PUBLIC BROADCASTING HAS SUNK.

9. Yeah, that's who I meant
I was wondering if he was Michael's son. Definitely looks like him.

BTW: Has anyone here read Michael Parenti's The Assassination of Julius Caesar?

EXCELLENT book. I highly recommend it.
