Has it occurred to you that Washington announced a month ago that the US would be launching a "Spring Offensive" in a certain place, at a certain time, to capture a certain person, and for 3 days now we have heard all about this offensive, and today they are beginning to bemoan his having escaped, came so close, goshdarnit to heck, just wait til next time!

Now I will ask you to for the sake of argument accept the hypothesis that this person is in fact not affiliated with the CIA and the US is sincerely looking for him.

By what cursed God of antilogic do you suppose that he will obligingly hie himself to the appointed capture site at the agreed upon place and time to calmly await air assault?

And what terms are the kindest to describe a public who does not even question this, so occupied are they in nodding their agreement with CNN's explanation that freedom is so new to the Iraqis that they just do not feel secure enough to celebrate their child's first year without feet?

I too, have taken a few breaks but
am back. It got particularly vicious
for a while but seems to have calmed down.

2) Several months later, the US news is filled with stories about how we may be about to capture this high-level Al Queda figure in the area we specified months earlier.

The fishy thing is that this high-level Al Queda figure probably gets CNN, and had seen the announcement described in #1 (above) So why didn't he leave the area?

24. I have so many questions about the latest news in Pakistan.....

I know we struck a deal with Pakistan when we went into Afghanistan, but it is my understanding that US troops are not allowed in Pakistan to hunt for Al Qaeda in the mountains on the Pakistan side. It has also been my understanding that bush* has said without equivocation that "anyone that harbors terrorists will also be dealt with". I know the mountainous area where the tribes have lived for centuries are very rarely accessed by the Pakistanis, but it still considered Pakistani domain. I get the impression that the Pakistanis want to capture high ranking Al Qaeda members on their own thus gaining some sort of standing in the world, WHY? And what was the nature of the deal struck between the US and Pakistan regarding no access to US troops?

Next question, if the Pakistanis do catch Bin Laden or Al Zawahiri, what will they do with them? Hand them over to the US? To the Hague for an International War Crime Tribunal?
