Any chance in taking Arlen Spectar's senate seat?

According to Kos:

_____________________________________________________________________
For the third straight day, a poll has been released giving Specter cause for serious concern. Following in the heels of two partisan polls and a SurveyUSA poll, a Quinnipiac University poll gives Specter weak reelect marks:
Specter Someone Don't Know
Else
All 36 44 19
Reps 40 42 18
Dems 36 45 19
Indies 30 47 22

snip_______________________________________________________________

For a "moderate" senator who likes to sell himself as an independent, those numbers can't be too comforting. The Q-poll has no Specter/Toomey matchup numbers, which at this point are far more important than the general election matchups. But even the Specter/Hoeffel numbers are trending our way. 3/9-15. MoE 3.1%. (2/10-16 results)

Specter 45 (50)
Hoeffel 29 (31)
Don't Know 20 (14)
_________________________snip________________________________________
Notice that Hoeffel's numbers have actually dipped, suggesting that Specter is slipping on his own, independent of anything Hoeffel is doing. In fact, Specter's numbers are probably taking a beating thanks to Toomey's efforts. Hoeffel can bide his time and fundraise and work on his name ID while Specter and Toomey deplete their war chests against each other.

2. I have hated Specter ever since the Clarence Thomas hearings,
but my daughter who lives in Philly says at least he is sometimes moderate. I hope a Dem can win the seat, but we are better with Specter than another freak like Santorius (sp).

8. Same here....
... I simply could not BELIEVE the stuff the man was saying. I could never vote for him or recommend him in any way - IT WAS THAT BAD.

3. Arlen Spectar, the author of the "Single Bullet Theory" which killed...
...JFK in Dallas TX November 1963, so incredible that the Warren Commission just had to include it along with all the other fabrications they developed about that event. That certainly won Spectar what appears to be a permanent seat in the Senate. Of course he should be challenged. How long should we have to tolerate an elephant stinking up the living room? :puke:

4. It's a bit confusing in PA
I don't watch much TV, so am not real up on the advertising, but I have seen two ads. One is Sanatorium (we really should un-elect him)actually endorsing Specter's re-election, and the other is a really wingnut guy named Toomey saying that Specter is way too liberal. Perhaps if the repugs are split this much in the primary, there may be a chance later. We are making progress- we went the right way with the Governor last year.

13. Toomey scares me more than (in)San(i)torum
And that's saying something.

While I'd obviously prefer pretty much any Dem over Spectre, he's fairly moderate when it comes to state politics - in an extremely conservative state. Toomey would be a very dangerous replacement, not just for PA, but for the entire country. He's a prototypical Neocon, and you can guarantee he's in the Bush Co. back pocket already.

What to do... what to do...

5. I have this recurring noightmare that
Toomey gets the nom and the seat.

Look at those rethug numbers: Specter: 40; Someone else: 42. To the rethugs, that "Someone else" is that utter troglodyte Toomey.

If that plays out, we had best not underestimate the Alabama middle of PA. (and I live in it.)

7. I live there too.
If Toomey wins the nomination, I think we have a good chance of getting the seat in November. But if we lose in November...we get a Santorum clone.:puke:

I don't understand it, but a lot of people like Spector.

6. accepting Single-bullet Specter
because he is not "as bad" as most repukes is the wrong strategy. For people who make this argument, I challenge them to name ONE vote he has cast "with us" that was decisive. My observation is that he votes "moderate" when it does not matter, but in every close issue, he drinks the repug kool-aid.

I think we would be better off with Toomey as the repuke and running against that psycho. Then Hoeffel (another go-along-to-get-along type) would have a better chance.

9. That's what I figured...
I don't know where he's "voted with us". It's true, he's better on women's rights and is more socially liberal than Santorum, but that really isn't saying much.

Santorum is a real nut, but didn't he just win last year? I guess Pennsylvanians have to deal with him for atleast another 4 years.

11. Rick won more than a year ago... 3?
I remember since I sent money to his opponent. This Toomey guy is a creep.. wonder where his ad money is coming from since * et al are endorsing Specter. I don't mind Specter nearly as much as Slick Rick. At least Specter is closer to being a moderate and is pro-choice. Why is our state so messed up .. .aaaargh ( hangs head in hands)

I also don't know who Dems would run against Toomey offhand. IMO Rendell ( current Dem gov) should have waited to run against Santorum. Maybe there is someone else Rendell-like out there with the name recognition to win either seat. I hope and pray that there is.
