Make your prediction. Will the media bury the Clarke story?
Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 08:42 PM by Karmadillo
I realize leading reporters everywhere are currently busy attempting to make the Republicans' "Kerry's a waffler and weak on defense" campaign a success, but does anyone think they might spare enough time to make sure as many people know about Clarke's accusations as knew about Kerry's torrid love affair with an intern (or Clinton's love child? or Al Gore's claim he invented the internet?)?

29. We do have the option of impacting the coverage.
If it sells a lot of books, it will get more media attention than if it does not sell a lot. Buy the book. Buy more copies, and give it to friends. Read the book, and write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Be an active agent in the education of the American public.

49. Clarke was a Reagan appointee - served under Bush I, Clinton, Bush II
So they can't do "Clinton appointee".

Disgruntled? Sour grapes? Bush II made counter-terrorism a staff position, not a Cabinet-level position, so this was a demotion. But as Clarke stated, if he HAD felt sour grapes, he wouldn't have stayed on after the demotion. Clarke DID stay on, however - he just kept doing his job, trying to warn Condi and Bush and Ashcroft and Wolfowitz and Hadley that Al-Qaeda should continue to be their top priority - as it had become under Clinton.

Election season? All the more reason to get someone in there who can really protect us, is all I can say.

Clark: Kerry will Be Straight With the American People Sunday March 21, 2004 6:31pm

Little Rock, AR - Clark stopped by the Channel Seven studio Sunday, and he's now championing the cause of his former democratic rival, John Kerry.

Another vocal opponent to the war in Iraq is visited Arkansas Sunday. Former presidential contender Wesley Clark has not only been a critic of President Bush, but also of the war in Iraq.

He's now championing the cause of his former democratic rival.. John Kerry.

Clark stopped by the Channel Seven studio Sunday-- he attacked President Bush's record on the economy saying his administration is running record deficits, and again hammered his opposition to the war.

"Despite the fact that even if Iraq had had weapons of mass destruction, they were no threat to the United States. They took us into war before allies were on board without a plan with regards to what we would do next, without even enough forces to handle a post-war problem. John Kerry will be straight with the American people. George Bush hasn't been."

according to a Clarkie:
Our General was just on my local AND national ABC-TV station
(Tampa/St. Pete FL) speaking out about Richard Clarke's book and
how
the Bushies wanted to attack Iraq immediately after 9/11. ABC
national
TV said that he was speaking for Kerry. Local TV station will have
more of his interview at 11:00 PM

Clarke will be testifying under oath. He will say things that Bush will contradict in his one hour+ interview, which will NOT be under oath.

So when anyone tries to make it a he said-he said story, everyone needs to point out the president refused to contradict Clarke under oath and demand that any contradiction be sworn testimony or it's meaningless.

Have you noticed that these neocons live for f*ckingforever? I mean Thurmond lived to 100, Jesse Helms, Novak, Ronald Reagan still going strong. They won't have time to have a guest ready, but on the open segment or by a focused question, they've just got to bring it up. I can't wait to hear a 70 or 80 year old call in tomorrow saying that Clarke can't be right because Bush is a savior. And they'll do that without being prompted by Falwell or Robertson.

However, it will probably take a little longer to perfect the talking points for the mainstream apologist-propogandists.

51. Right now it's the top linked-to story on the web
http://www.blogdex.net/track.asp?id=8990023

The corporate media will be missing out if they don't run with this too. People are really into this - it's clear and simple and deals with our safety.

53. With public sentiment turning against SmirkCo
the media will follow. They are, after all, whores who will go with the flow in the hopes of cashing in. This is a great "teaser" lead-in for the 911 hearings this week. This will get some major Play over the next few weeks and it will NOT die a slow death 'cuz Kerry is smart enough to take this ball and run for a touchdown.

I better stock up on popcorn.....this one is gonna' be REAL good as it plays out.

Oh yeah.....one more thing.......you can help in keeping the pressure ON!

57. Media cowards...
You'd think the media would run with this...seeing in the NEAR future television stations dedicated to the Bu$h War trials and Impeachment process. I remember when I was a kid (I'm dating myself here) going home after school and the only thing on was the Watergate trials...the media makes HUGE money on those trials. Heck, the media could even bring charges up on the bully tactics of this administration. Remember the OJ trials? BIG BIG money. I'd rather watch Bu$hco on trial then another idiotic State of the Union speech.

59. Start making a list...
Will the media bury the Clarke story?

No, they aren't burying it now, but the public has an incredibly short attention span and it will be long forgotten in two or three weeks.

Michael Jackson, however, is still making non-news.

Far as I can imagine, the Democratic party will need, after the summer is over, to hammer hard on the whole string of scandals that have come out over the past months about Bush's handling of Iraq and Al Qaeda. Some good ads that list all of the accusations in order, i.e. January, this, and February, this, and March, this, and so on through the year could build a total picture that would be impossible to ignore or dismiss.

If Bush's strength is scaring people, the facts that have come out over the past months, plus those that will probably come out in the next months ought to scare the dickens out of them. They need to be scared of Bush!
