"charge card Republicans!"
My brother just said something I'd never heard before that he claims is common among his (formerly) conservative fellow New Yorkers:

"I'd rather vote for a tax and spend Democrat than a charge card Republican"

I thought it very catchy

1. Ooh! That is good.
Somebody - a surrogate maybe - should use that when they come out with "Kerry's a tax-and-spend Democrat" and in general we should try to make "charge card Republican" a household phrase.

5. What the hell is "tax and spend" supposed to mean anyhow?
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 12:08 PM by tjwash
I know what the semantic context the conservative cheerleaders are always putting it in is supposed to mean. I am talking about the literal translation. Isn't collecting taxes, and spending the taxes collected on government programs and departments what our elected officials are supposed to do?

I guess the phrase it is becoming like the word "liberal". By definition it means BROAD-MINDED; especially : not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms
6 a : of, favoring, or based upon the principles of liberalism,
but has so successfully been demonized by the right, that all of my liberal friends have opted to start calling themselves progressives.

6. Tax and Spend is the purpose of Government
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 12:11 PM by Bandit
It is how the money is spent that is at the crux of it all. We want it spent on the people and infrastructure while the GOP wants it spent on the richest people (Corporations) in the world. And on implements of death. We want health care they want bombs and WMDs.
