"Dick CLarkE's American Grandstand" -McClellan today 3/22/04
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 12:30 PM by underpants
I just heard this on my way back from buying "Against All Enenmies". CBS radio news reported that McClellan went on record to say that.

This updated report via wired news (from AP)

http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=RelatedStories&pitem=AP%2DTerrorism+Adviser&rev=20040322&pub_tag=APONLINE&relatedTo=839335&from=relatedstory&rsNum=1

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House, fuming over a former aide's charge that President Bush gave short-shrift attention to al-Qaida while obsessing over Saddam Hussein, branded the fighting-terrorism flap as "Dick Clarke's American Grandstand."

ALSOvia Reuters

Um shouldn't you have had your oh I dunno you couter terrorism expert at the meetings? Why wasn't he at the Camp David meeting?

http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=839335&tw=wn_wire_story

"Dick Clarke just does not know what he is talking about. He wasn't involved in most of the meetings of the administration," Rice told ABC's "Good Morning America."

2. Perhaps if they had involved him things would be different
Allthey do is paint themselves as a petty , closed, incompetent team so intent on corporate cheerleading that they forgot to do their jobs...this Clarke interview CAN be used to point out that their system of government is SO CLOSED as to create a danger to America...anyone who doesn't repeat the CLUB MANTRA is NOT invoted into the club.

3. The Freak Monkey downgraded Clarke's job...
Bush* took away Clarke's cabinet post level; thus, he wasn't allowed to join in Condi's reindeer games.

9. Right that is the justification but doesn't it bring up questions....
If you were so concerned about terrorism why would you downgrade the top anti-terrorism position?

Where ONLY cabinet members present? Not one staffer of under secretary?

35. Same reason you'd refuse to read an indepth report on terrorism written
by the last adminstration, or choose to ignore foreign intelligence reports, or go on vacation when the CIA is warning of serious terrorist threats, or give the Taliban millions of dollars two months before 9/11, or tell the US Air Force to stand down on 9/11, etc. etc.

ANSWER: CRIMINAL INCOMPETENCE OR TREASONOUS INTENT OR BOTH!

5. Gotta hand it to the spin machine
"Dick Clarke's American Grandstand" is clever. There is no way around it. These f*cks hang tough when they're backed into a corner.

It's really all they can do, and hope for the best.

14. Dick Clark oughta sue them for capitalizing on his territory
no idea if he is a dem or Repuke. He is still alive though, I think.

This atrocity of sneering and attempting to destroy a person, is right in line with Bush's nicknaming and publically embarrassing people for their physical attributes, under the guise of jocular friendliness.

I do think they look absolutely foolish now. Like little kids.

Heh--as a youngster, I went to one of Dick Clark's American bandstands and was on TV dancing my head off. My parents thought I was wonderful.

19. Funny that is pretty much what my wife said
I won't go there and she doesn't want to but she told me that there is so much evidence that it is hard to not take that leap.

Last night at one point her hand went over her mouth and so I asked "What is it?" (I love to hear her take on something we are watching together) She said,"Oh GOd I think they did know".

23. Yes, the realization is hitting more and more people
Especially coupled w/the resistance to a 9/11 commission in the first place, denial of documents, testimonies, extensions, etc. Now CondiSleaza will not testify. Looks very bad, very bad, indeed.

39. Has she thought about the whole Hour and a half..
on 9/11 when the US did NOTHING to intercept those wayward airliners? Rummy at his desk, chimpy still reading to kids, Myers at his desk, etc.... They did not do a damn thing when we were under attack. I was convinced within days they were at the very least incompetent. The worst is confirmed now... THEY KNEW amd let it happen on purpose... :grr:

24. Serious charges, stupid answers.
Condi: "Dick Clarke just does not know what he is talking about. He wasn't involved in most of the meetings of the administration,"

Condi is worthless. Richard Clarke has served in the three administrations prior to this. I would say that gives him far more experience in national security matters than Condi or Bush.
As it turns out Richard Clarke knew more than the whole Bush administration.

If anyone can remember the name of the WH official they were interviewing, it would be much appreciated. It's slipping my mind right now.

that Clarke left the admin. on good terms and thinking that Bush was a good leader. Listening to him equivocate on that was hilarious. He was saying shit like "Well, I BELIEVE when Clarke left he felt that the President was doing a good job...blah blah blah". When pressed he would NOT say that Clarke ever SAID anything of the sort, only that Hadley believed that was how Clarke felt. Really stupid shit. Then Clarke would get on and essentially say unequivocally that Bush is a failure on terrorism...It was pretty amazing seeing them juxtaposed like that...

Good to see you on Sat.! Did you make the train?

34. What needs to be played up
and hammered home is the fact that in the days that followed 9-11 they all acted so surprised and denied having any substancial warning. Wasn't it Rice who said who would have thought they would have flown airplanes into buildings? Now that Clarke has verified that they did nothing how can they defend themselves about how much they did to fight terrorism? If they were fighting so hard on terrorism how could it have possibly taken them by surprise on 9-11? They have to have been lying either now or right after 9-11.

I'd like to know why the press doesn't go for the jugular in these WH press briefings. As it was, Scottie looked like he was wound tighter than a watchspring...could have zoomed right out of the building at any moment. He was "ripe" for the picking.

Bush creates a new Office of National Preparedness for terrorism and promises a government review, led by Dick Cheney, into the consequences of a domestic attack. It never happens.
