Photo - Bomb thrown covers a British soldier in flames
A bomb thrown by protesters covers a British soldier in flames in Basra. Attacks in the city hurt 13 Britons.

This photo just seemed to epitomize the vulnerability of soldiers in Iraq.

6. Pecisely
They clearly "misunderestimated" the Iraqi response to our "liberation" of their country.

we're going to end up fighting a war that has Viet Nam's fingerprints all over it."

5. Oh my God.
Isn't it interesting that it is easier to accept pictures like this if the cause if just. If we saw this picture in relationship to charging up a mountain to find Bin Laden, then my initial reaction would be one of sacrifice and resolve. Seeing it in Iraq makes me mad at Bush.

9. Update - Article on this incident
13 British soldiers wounded by explosions in southern Iraq
Associated Press

....snip....
A British Ministry of Defense spokeswoman said the 13 soldiers were evacuated to a nearby British military hospital at Shaibah, and none of them appeared to be suffering life-threatening wounds.

British television showed protesters throwing rocks at British soldiers riding tanks and standing behind plastic shields in the streets of Basra. Two Associated Press photographs showed a British soldier running down one street with his head and shoulders on fire, presumably from one of the petrol bombs.

The scores of Iraqi demonstrators were protesting a failure to get jobs with the local customs police.

A British Ministry of Defense spokesman said it would be wrong to see the incident as "a terrorist-related attack." Instead, he said, it was British soldiers acting to bring public unrest under control.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, could not confirm a British Broadcasting Corp. TV report that the British soldiers had fired tear gas at the protesters.
....snip....

What the hell is the difference at this point whether this was a "terrorist-related attack" or "public unrest"?
