I have to admit he's good at doing what they pay him for - avoid, evade, spin, prevaricate, obfuscate, distraction, rhetorical obscurity, etc.

6. How can he say they thought the threat was entirely overseas??
They had the Hart-Rudman report when, in January??

And supposedly they knew Al Qaeda was a threat (to eliminate not roll back).

Yet they paid no attention to the intel and the FBI memos and the reports and went on vacation in August... Who's buying this crap?

8. This guys sounds like he's about to have a stroke...
he knows that every word of his is going to be parsed to death. One misstatement and it's his ass in a sling. Not a pretty sight for sure!

I bet the Administration wishes they had Ari around to just smile at the reporters and just re-state that the "President feels..." over and over.

I wasn't this nervous when I proposed marriage...

9. I just now had to walk away. ..........
I feel as though I am on another planet. 2 TV's on, taping the 9-11 Families on C-Span 1, picking up Scotty on the other.

Disbelief. Shock and Awe being visited upon us, the people of the US.

Why?

I think Scott is spending alot of time with Rove, the next few months are going to be hard on us all.

buildings post-911 yet she now claims that she asked for a meeting to talk about aviation security while Clarke was there.

14. shameless smearing of Clarke
claiming HE was absent from meetings...

So they're going to go the blatant lie and make the press prove otherwise route.

That's a strategy that has been working for years.

Ohm boy, I can't believe these whoppers!! All of a sudden the Bushies were hot for Al Queda! when all acounts up til now claim otherwise!

I suppose they'll get away with this too.

Now they are saying that he didn't attend. Wordplay here they aren't saying specifically that he missed them just that he wasn't there.

37. Given how they left O'Neil out of the loop...
...as much as possible, one has to conclude that Clarke was left out as well. Seems like anyone not in lock step with the inner circle mindset was pretty much shunned and treated only as window dressing.

Nice that Clarke is going to be on the talk shows tomorrow. I was hoping for today. But this way, he's giving them a day to give it their best shot. Tomorrow, he can answer his detractors with his laser beam integrity. I can hardly wait.

How can it be Clinton's fault if they saw fit to continue his policies?
The tactic now is to claim that they were following the former regime's policies "until they could develop one of their own". By saying this, they're saying that Clinton's policies were good, that they were unprepared in the face of something that told them it was urgent and that they really hadn't rated it as a very high priority.

They're on the run now, and that's when they make mistakes. He just said that "all the chatter pointed to an attack abroad". Really? Care to prove that? How much chatter was there? Are foreign attacks just not important?

What a delicious mess. The Press seems to have acquired spines somewhere.

Somehow it's still Clinton's fault.

29. Tangled in their own web!
If they did take the warnings seriously, why did they ignore reports, plans, policies, warnings, etc. and go on vacation in August? If they didn't take the warnings seriously, why didn't they?

If they did know airplanes could be used in attacks, why didn't they heed the FBI memo? If they didn't know, why did Condi ask for a meeting about it?

41. Anybody got Woodward's book?
Since he recorded every orgasmic minute of the 911 aftermath--"Boys," said the fearless, manly President, sounding like the wild Texas cowboy that he is, "let's hunt them mavericks down and lay our brand on 'em."--there should be an account there of whether or not Little Chickenfeathers made his vital strategic thoughts to the situation room.
