to be or not to be..."a moderate"
Edited on Mon Aug-04-03 09:19 AM by burr
To be a moderate you must embrace the bloodshed and death of invading a sovereign nation, regardless of what the purpose of such an attack are or connections or lack of connections Iraq and Afghanistan had directly to 9/11. To be moderate you must support every tax cut, vote for every military spending program, oppose any social program, and cut any safety net. To be a moderate we cannot support the crazy ideas put foward by simple minded idiots like John Breaux, John Kerry, and Howard Dean that would allow any medically ill or "high-risk" person to buy private health insurance from programs like the Federal Employees' Benefits Plan. Nationalized healthcare is communism...and Communism was opposed by Truman and Kennedy!

To be a moderate you must fight the divisive attempts of fools and McGoverniks like Dean and Kucinich to divide and destroy our party. They could not care less if we only won a single state plus the district of Columbia. All they care about is those damned terrorists and the idiotic tree huggers who get all erotic over plants! Fuck the libs!

We need huge spending in defense..who cares on what?, just give them the fucking money! Let's be moderates, create a Department of Preemptive Justice. If it works abroad it will work in catching people before they even think about becoming terrorists. Maybe we can send these liberals a message of the "POWER OF PRIDE". In other words time to sit down and shut up!!

Now get in line, and strip off your clothes if you fail to agree!

3. "strip off your clothes if you fail to agree"- you really do not want this
There are punishments that fit the crime, and then there are crimes against humanity.

I am a "moderate" liberal in that I am a fiscal conservative.

But National Health saves 5% of GNP for other uses. Sucking up to insurance companies is what costs money. Which is why I want Edwards as VP on Kerry or Dean's ticket.

5. "... to die, to sleep, perchance to dream ..."
To be a moderate, one must shed open declarations of ideology in favor of technocratic explanations and solutions as a first resort.

To be a moderate, one must occupy the political center as constituted by an unremitting right wing and corporate media that shift ever rightward, and on the other hand a few leftist voices.

Isn't that bad enough without resorting to overstatement? Ay, there's the rub.

9. two overstatements give us a nicely-centered understatement.
A right cancels a wrong...meaning that moderates can be self-righteously clean and neutral. But without those smug, evil liberals, where would the political center slide next?

10. answer from Hamlet, sort of
"But without those smug, evil liberals, where would the political center slide next?"

They would take up no arms against a sea of troubles, and not opposing, become them.
