"Astonished" by the maze of tunnels and caves?
What on earth does the US and even its allies think these people (so called "terrorists") are? Are they believing their own propaganda that these people are "uncivilized" "terrorists" who hate our freedom? These people have been fighting for survival since Alexander the Great and even before him. They have dug sophistacted underground caves, and tunnels that would rival US subway systems. These people are ingenious, industrial, intelligent, and intense. Does anyone remember the Afghan wars with Russia? Do we really think that these people only hate us because of our so-called "freedoms?" How about not wanting to be occupied, terrorized, colonialized, and vandalized by western powers?
It is really amzaing to me that the west is always "astonished" about what they find in the very cradle of civilization and by the intensity of warfare these people are willing to fight.

We really think too highly of ourselves in the light of human history.

1. My immediate reaction, too.
I wasn't thinking so much of the historical context, though.

More just that the news media has been talking about the "maze of tunnels" since most of us first heard of Bin Laden.

5. We were defeated in Vietnam because of underground tunnels.
And, though we don't build great tunnels, we do have people in this country who have tunnel vision when it comes to war.

6. That's not even the half of it!
Where do you think the mujehadeen learned about these caves and tunnels? It couldn't have been during their war against the SOVIETS, could it?

And who was supporting them and helping them to develop these underground networks at this time? Why, it couldn't have been the UNITED STATES, could it?

Like Zbigniew Brzenzski (sp) said regarding his involvement in instigating (that's right, INSTIGATING) the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, "We helped end the Cold War. Who cares about a few stirred-up Moslems?"

I can think of close to 3,000 people -- not to mention their families -- who came to care a great deal.

8. I have never seen pictures BUT...
Remember all those elaborate artists' renderings that they showed on TV before the Afghanistan war?? They were all over the news...and yet we never saw photographic evidence of ANY of them, after the fact.. If they knew enough about them to have made those drawings, where were they?? Why did they never find any ??

9. I remember a program on PBS
on the soviet/afghan war where there were caves and tunnels dug into mountains. When the mujhadeen sp. were on trails and saw soviet aircraft they would duck into one of the manmade caves as quickly as possible, only to pop out with shoulder fired rockets to take a potshot.
