When Rupert Murdoch Calls...Condoleezza Rice Answers
Last Friday, the Bush Administration was busy pumping up hopes that the war on terrorism was about to yield a victory: the capture along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan of the reputed No. 2 man in Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda network. As it turned out, Dr Ayman Al-Zawahri was probably not among the militants holed up in the heavily fortified compounds that were assaulted by Pakistani troops and their US advisors.

But, by most measures, the prospective capture of what Administration aides described as "a high-value target" was treated as a very big deal by the Bush White House. At the same time, Administration aides were busy trying to hold together the coalition of the sort-of willing that was cobbled together to support the invasion of Iraq. With Spain's new prime minister declaring the occupation "a disaster" and threatening to withdraw that country's troops from Iraq, and with Poland's president telling European reporters that his country was "misled" about the nature of the threat posed by Iraq, the Administration has its hands full.

Surely, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, a key player on all the fronts that were in play, had a very long list of responsibilities. No time for diversions on Friday, right? Wrong.

Rice took time out of the middle of the day to address a secretive gathering that included global media mogul Rupert Murdoch and top executives from television networks, newspapers and other media properties owned by Murdoch's News Corp. conglomerate. Rice spoke at some length via satellite to Murdoch and his cronies, who had gathered at the posh Ritz Carlton Hotel in Cancun Mexico, according to reports published in the British press.

3. She needs to take responsibility for her own actions and statements.
Ms. Rice has a lot to answer for.

16. LOL
Nobody in the Bush Administration takes responsibility for anything that can be perceived as slightly negative. It's all Clinton's fault

2. They sold the Sistah out...and she deserves to get sold out...
She's been out there towing the line. Who's out there defending her now.
Hardly no body. Who's debunking the statement that she didn't know who Al Queda was?

She turned on Colin thinking she was in the in Crowd. Now she's being hung out to dry...just like they hung Colin out to dry.

So long Condi...

That is from one to another. I had her back in the beginning thinking she would do us proud. In the end she's getting beat down. Just like they Beat down JC Watts. They used him then they tossed him aside when he wanted a little more of the treasure.

7. Strong, intelligent, and amoral
She was a Russian specialist that was not qualified for her position. While I know she was smart academically, she seems to have bitten off more than she can chew by accepting her position. She is also a corporate whore-she has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.

9. I agree, I also think that she has towed the line for the Administration
hook, line and tanker(pun intended)....

The Bush Administration will excise anyone who does not tow the line. They are not an adminsitraiton that believes in independent thinking.

To play the game she made a choice...this is the result of her choice.

We (Black women) are very independent, strong, intelligent women. We tell you what we think and why. I have rarely met a Sistah that will just tow the line to hang.

She's dissapointed me because she towed the line. I would expect her to think and to do what is right not what is directed of her by Bush Co. even at the expense of being ousted. Plus she ganged up on Powell when he was trying to do the right thing.

14. That's a curious statement.
"We (Black women are very independent, strong, intelligent women.etc" I guess that is true to about the same extent that it is for Brown women, Red women, Yellow women, and White women. I would include eye colors, hair styles, and shoe sizes, but I think you get the idea. But even within this nation of powerful women, there are those who are on the side of the enemy of democracy. She has done more than merely towed the line. She's sold her soul. She is as responsible for the violence and the crime that this administration has caused as is any one of them, male or female, black or white.

Oh, you're welcome. I was just checking. Same as I would if someone said that they had Don Rumsfeld's back, because he was an educated, independent, loyal White man. Some republicans think that way.

25. Okay, xultar!
Because you have a sense of humor and a feel for right and wrong, and even more because you put up with my teasing you in good spirits, I will tell you two little things about water that I learned from two of my best friends. Onondaga Chief Paul Waterman taught me that clean water is the first law. All life depends upon clean water. And when the water supply becomes polluted, people suffer. Second: my friend Malcolm X taught me that if you put a glass of clean water and a glass of dirty water in front of a thirsty human being, they will usually select the clean water. So that's my favorite type! I love clean water. Be good and behave!

28. Perhaps she sold her soul a long time ago
to corporate interests. From watching her, she seems to have the walkd and the talk down pat. There is a certain personna these corporate types learn and exude. It is, most always, robotic, superficial and shallow.

In spite of all she has accomplished in her life, she rings shallow.

23. Rice is among the freest to speak her mind
Everybody at Bushco reads from the same hymnal, but Rice has lattitude to make her own arguments. That suggests that either (a) she is largely responsible for authoring national security policy, in particular the doctrine of pre-emption; or (b), she has the respect of her superiors (Bush*??) and is permitted to approach things in her own way--to a degree, of course.

Really, it's not obvious because as you say they must toe the line and they all have stock phrases that they use, but if you look at how they tapdance around language like "imminent threat" it's apparent that Rice in particular speaks with full knowledge of what that phrase means in international law, and how the administration would like to spin it.

my 2¢

I truly respected her (and Colin) but they had to get mixed up with the Bush cabal and all their lies. Now look at the mess she's in. I'll bet she regrets taking the job. If I were her, I would resign.

The bodies of three young Haitian men lie on the floor of a private morgue in the LaSaline district of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Sunday March 21, 2004. Residents say five young men were taken away by Haitian police last night and their bound and hooded bodies found dead this morning with gunshot wounds to the head. (AP Photo/Ryan Remiorz, CP)

24. I agree with everyone about Condiliar...
...but I am still troubled by the image of a prominent black woman behind bars.

This is in no way meant to exonerate Condi in any way for her actions or lack thereof. She should be held to account just as much as the other lying liars. If necessary, she should step down or even, yes, go to prison.

30. I don't feel sorry for Condi
I do feel sorry for the victims in the towers who had to decide to either jump to their deaths, melt, or be crushed like a bug because this woman is unqualified to do her job. She was picked because shes a good ole boy, but dressed as a token.

I still like her head on a post outside of the White House but I do understand if that is too much English Law for us Americans.
