I have a question about the 60 Minutes Interview with Clarke

Towards the end of the segment, Leslie Stahl asked Steven Hadley about Clarke's statement that right after 9-11 took place he was pulled into Bush's office along with a few others and told to see if there was a connection between Saddam and Bin Laden. Hadley, I believe, commented to the effect that no such meeting took place. To which Stahl replied that CBS News independently confirmed this with two sources including one eye-witness. Hadley replied that he stood on his statement. Has anyone reported on who these sources might be or who might be the eyewitness?

He was a former staffer of Clarke's and is now an NBC analyst. He was on the Nightly News tonight. Dan Bartlett basically admitted today that the meeting likely happened but he didn't know what was said.

Mr. Wolfowitz then dismissed articles in several newspapers this week asserting that Pentagon budget specialists put the cost of war and reconstruction at $60 billion to $95 billion in this fiscal year. Remember until early seventies there was a draft and most working class people aka Democrats got drafted and sent to war while rich kids like Bush* got cushy NG jobs which they then left when they felt they had served long enough. Just because someone is a veteran doesn't make them pro-war. In fact I would be willing to bet the exact opposite is true. The more a person saw combat the less apt they are to promote warfare. That is the difference between us and the Chickenhawks who never saw a day of combat. They know nothing.

20. ABC News found 3 independent witnesses

Tonight on ABC News, they said the White House denied the meetings ever took place. ABC said they had 3 independent witnesses to the meeting; and the White House immediately admitted that the meetings took place; but they denied that the conversations were as described.

So, maybe Clarke, CBS News and ABC News are all lying and the White House is just timidly backing down when challenged. Or, maybe the White House knows damn well that the meetings took place and just doesn't want to be caught in a blatant lie.
