hi Darker, well today things seem to be going from bad to worse and quickly.
Lien told Mike Chinoy that he would "have trouble" accepting it if the election commission denied a re-count for lack of valid reason...this is extremely dangerous...
So far the KMT haven't been able to come up with any convincing reason why the result should be questioned, save the shooting incident, witch automatically put the armed forces on alert, (Taiwanese army people are always told to go vote KMT) and thus denied them %of victory...but that still is not a valid reason under election law.
Stock markets around the world have been seriously shaken from this, and with good reason...Taiwan sits on a pile of gold that keeps part of the world economy afloat at times, not to mention other sectors that would be affected economically...the market hates uncertainty, is certainly true...not to mention the fact that if this crisis remains deadlocked --it could well prove a long awaited excuse for mainland forces to "restore order" to the Taiwan province.
It is well known to everyone here that every taiwanese business person in mainland China have been threatened to vote for KMT or face problems. The KMT reaction is as much in fear of a reactionary China threatening their business interests than anything else. The "upper crust beauties" in Taipei fear losing much more to their uglier/poorer cousins in the south than just another election.
...real life is always stranger than fiction...hope I don't have to bug out of Taiwan quite yet, but if so, San Francisco, open your golden gate...you might just get a new gold rush, taiwanese style.
