911 Irony : The pre-emptive strike : Bush sons v. Saddams sons
I think we (USA-particularly those who voted Bush) failed to realize the message we were sending overseas when we elected a Bush.

We had to kill Saddamm's sons because we were so afraid that one of them might replace him...Do you think Iraqis had a similar fear?

Well - we elected a Bush...son of the conqueror of Iraq...what kind of message did that send to the mideast?

I think electing a Bush was like saying to the mideast..."Here we come..."

It's no wonder Al-queda lauched a pre-emptive stike. They saw us coming...

1. First off, we did not elect this Bush.
He was selected, remember?

Second, Saddam and his sons had practically nothing to do with Al-Quaida. Why would Quaida be concerned about Uday and Qusay?

Third, did you really vote for Bush?

3. I'm under the impression that Al-queda...
is up for a fight with Americans anytime, anywhere...if we unknowingly telegraphed our intentions of setting foot in Iraq - I would think Al-queda would realize the implications of a US-run Iraq and would respond appropriately (911)

Remember UBLs comments about the US forces in Kuwait/Saudi A...?

You missed my point about the sons...I'm trying to compare the US reaction to Saddams sons to Mid-east reaction to the Bush son...our nightmare came true for them...

(not playing the elected/selected game...sorry...thats an old one.)

2. Except the Iraqis had nothing to do with 9/11.
And plans were in the works before Bush* got in office.

4. Exactly...they new we were coming...
So you are saying Al-queda would not have cared that the US was planning to invade Iraq?

(I know you're not)

Al-queda doesn't have a country - they seem to act on behalf of greater Islam...I thkink Al-queda saw the Bush son elected...new he was comming...and lauched a pre-emptive strike...911

5. I don't know if you can say one way or the other.
Here's the closest analogy I can think of.

Saddam is to Al-Qaida now what he was to the USA in the 70s/80s. A petty tyrant who served as the "enemy of my enemy." Saddam's regime was remarkably secular, which pissed off most Saudis and Al-Qaida. Believe me, I don't think they shed many tears when he was overthrown.

Besides, Al-Qaida's war against the "Great Satan" started long before Bush* was even considered for office.
