But just discovered it, and it so blew my mind that I want to share it over and over...

http://independence.net/irancontra

Contrary to their testimony to the presidentially appointed Tower Commission and the Select Iran/contra Committees of Congress, Independent Counsel determined that Secretary Weinberger and his closest aides were consistently informed of proposed and actual arms shipments to Iran during 1985 and 1986. The key evidence was handwritten notes of Weinberger, which he deliberately withheld from Congress and the OIC until they were discovered by Independent Counsel in late 1991. The Weinberger daily diary notes and notes of significant White House and other meetings contained highly relevant, contemporaneous information that resolved many questions left unanswered in early investigations.

The notes demonstrated that Weinberger's early testimony -- that he had only vague and generalized information about Iran arms sales in 1985 -- was false, and that he in fact had detailed information on the proposed arms sales and the actual deliveries. The notes also revealed that Gen. Colin Powell, Weinberger's senior military aide, and Richard L. Armitage, assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, also had detailed knowledge of the 1985 shipments from Israeli stocks. Armitage and Powell had testified that they did not learn of the November 1985 HAWK missile shipment until 1986.

8. If they were working so hard
and it was so important why did * take a vacation? Also I wish that the Dems on this committee would attack these assholes. The commission is compromised. I wish someone would ask also if they were working so hard why did it come as such as a surprise to Condi? Why if the president was so informed that he sat on his ass for so long after he heard that the first tower had been hit.

12. Exactly!
I heard Condi say something the other day about how they had a meeting on terrorism during the first week in July and did not meet again until Sept. 4, 2001. So there they are during the whole month of August having a vacation - since they "were working so hard".

I am waiting for someone to mention that Bush was on vacation the whole month of August. Guess I better not hold my breath, huh?

24. His whole life has been a vacation
Then Sept. 11, 2001 forced someone to prop him up and make him look presidential, imo. Up to that point he was having a great time dispensing his tax breaks and taking care of his buddies.

has asked several unusual questions against Clarke. Thompson sounds very political, covering his party's a$$.

13. How can anyone respect this man?

Literally, he is sitting there (NOT UNDER OATH) saying "gee, all the people that did 9-11 were already here. What could we do? Clinton should have stopped them."

So far, these hearings are nothing more than political games. Let us hope Kean or someone with balls (Thompson is a political shill, obviously) holds Powells feet to the fire.

Oh, nice job of fillbustering to kill half your allocated time, Collie.

Asshole.

20. I stand corrected if this is the case
It was my understanding that Powell would be allowed to testify while not being under oath. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

14. If the Clinton's big Failure was NOT to have bomb...
the AlQuaida then, the Big Failure of the bushcos was not to investigate their friends, the Saudis. They were the one funding those terrorists groups. House of bush/house of Saudis.

16. I used to think Powell was okay too, but the more you look at
his background over the years, the more you see that he's mealy-mouthed lackey like all the rest of them.

According to the conservative leaning BBC reporter John Simpson "The Wars Against Saddam--Taking the Hard Road to Baghdad," Powell was the one that got George H. W. Bush to back away from the uprising that George I had spawned when he encouraged Shias and Kurds to rise up against Saddam after Gulf War I.

So he's a game player without real convictions . . . the prick.

18. Powell has mastered the wallk and the talk and the facial expressions
with the suitiable "ummmmm" pauses and is well rehearsed. He is actually of average intelligence and not particularly brilliant and has not done anything spectacular since he has become Secy.

He has no credibility left after his lying dance on the floor of the UN before the Security Council . I just assume everything he says is either a lie or a bastardization of the truth.
