I'll let this speak for itself. I'm sorry if someone else has already posted this story.

lots of chagrinned gay republicans and libertarians right now.

Protection from job discrimination is one of the rights even many opponents of same sex marriage say gays should have.

Of course, since Shrubbery has already lost any gay support he may have had, I guess he figures it can't hurt to shore up his religoue fanatic vote.

11. And he's right.
There is no ENDA. It never got passed the Congress during Clinton, and Chimpy is certainly not going to vote for it, so yes, gay people can still be fired...in certain places.

States and municipalities do have anti-discrimination laws on their books.

13. Missing the point
As a matter of law, there is no protection for gays against discrimination. However, as Chief Executive of the Federal Govt, POTUS can issue an Executive Order prohibiting the discrimination of it's employees on the basis of sexual orientation. Bush* has chosen not to, and using the lack of an ENDA law to justify it. You may not have liked all of Clinton's actions, but he did protect gays who worked for the Federal govt.

Bush* has chosen to remove those protections.

What I said was, he didn't increase it. Bush* is taking away some of the protections gay Fed workers have, a point you haven't commented on in your rush to criticize Dems.

You want to accuse me and others of not fighting, but you're the one being silent about the current abuses, while obsessing over events from years ago.

I have been critical of this admin from the start! Just as I am critical of Dems that are wrong! DOMA and Don't ask don't tell increased discrimination. If not for the federal DOMA most states would not have DOMA's and there would be no problem today.

20. Am I reading this correctly?
Is this the real world or some bizarre dream I'm having?

I think I read that the Fed Gov can't fire homosexuals for "conduct", presumably homosexual conduct. But they can be fired, not for what they've done, but what they ARE? ("...have the legal right to fire or demote someone based on their sexual orientation")

So you can now be fired from your government position for BEING gay?

I'm straight, but I was born that way, just like gays are born with their sexual preference. And yes, I'm familiar with the stories that start, "first, they came for such-and-such group, and I didn't care, because I wasn't one of them. then, they came for the other group, and I ignored it. Now they're coming for me".

I hope this serves as a wake-up call for all of us, straight and gay. They're after us. And to the gay community at DU, yes, I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but please mark me as awake and alarmed as of right now.

Yet here's the caption from the daily mislead:

"Bush Allows Gays to Be Fired for Being Gay

Despite President Bush's pledge that homosexuals "ought to have the same rights" 1 as all other people, his Administration this week ruled that homosexuals can now be fired from the federal workforce because of their sexual orientation.

According to the Federal Times, the president's appointee at the Office of Special Counsel ruled that federal employees will now "have no recourse if they are fired or demoted simply for being gay." 2 While the Bush Administration says it is legally prohibited from firing a person for their conduct, they have the legal right to fire or demote someone based on their sexual orientation. To carry out the directive, the White House has begun removing information from government websites about sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace. 3

Not only does the new directive contradict the president's own promise to treat homosexuals as equals under the law, but it also contradicts what the Administration told Congress. As noted in a bipartisan letter from four Senators to the Administration, "During the confirmation process , you assured us that you were committed to protecting federal employees against unlawful discrimination related to their sexual orientation." 4

My summary:
Bush is a sick bastard and a fascist nazi.

44. Substitute the word
"Jews" for "gays" and you'll understand exactly what's happening right now, the same thing that was happening in Germany in the early 1930's.

Gradually implement and tighten up the discrimination against a group or certain groups (then it was Jews, in this case it's gays), (like slowly boiling a lobster) and do it in a way that it isn't immediately noticeable to the general public and won't ring the necessary alarm bells.

Then, by the time people realize what's really happening, it's too damned late to do anything about it. Nice to see Shrub learned his lessons well from grandaddy Prescott "The Nazis Helped Make Me My Fortune" Bush. Hopefully, we'll have learned our lesson from history well enough to be able to stop this madness before it gets to the point of no return.

The writing is very clearly on the wall. First homosexuals, then Arabs, then liberals, then anyone else who disagrees off to Gitmo or a concentration camp near you! Perhaps I've got the order wrong, but I think I've the captured the spirit of "compassionate conservatism" as promoted by Bush, Cheney, Hannity, Coulter and this faith-based Blochhead who is turning the law on its head. If Bush steals the White House again, we're toast.

I'd like to nominate Bloch as one of the top five conservative idiots for this week. His ugly name needs to be shouted from the rooftops so the world knows what a disgusting bigot he is.

People who belong to 2 or more of these groups of "undesireables"- look out. I've already had one hard drive virused beyond repair- and I know that was just the beginning.

66. It wasn't even my computer
Which makes it even worse. :(

I don't troll right-wing websites. I know it's my outspokenness. But I REFUSE to be silenced.

78. Here is the circumstantial evidence
George and Victor were roomies at Yale together...they were both cheerleaders...Victor married and moved out of mommas house at 42, to a woman George and Laura introduced him to. George and Victor have been together at least once a month since he became gov of Texas.

and finally...
