Iraqis express outrage at Hamas leader's killing
According to CNN:

Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the most powerful Shiite cleric in Iraq, urged Muslims to unite against Israel and restore what he said belongs to the Palestinians.

1. What the heck?
Doesn't he realize he won't actually acquire freedom of speech until such time as the viceroy of Iraq may direct?
And he certainly shouldn't have it until Mari333 does...fair's fair.

2. One wonders if this is part of a deliberate plan
George the First successfully managed to keep Israel out of the Gulf War, after they had been attacked by Scud missiles fired by Iraq. WHEW! If they would have attacked, all Arab forces would have withdrawn from the Coalition, and it is likely the conflict would spread.

I suspect that this was a deliberatively provocative act by Israel. They know of course that it will inflame hatred towards Israel -- and since they can claim they are merely defending themselves in exactly the same manner as Americans are, they will retaliate against the blowback this assassination will bring about with a virulence we have not yet seen before.

Israel knew that Yassin was a Shiite, and revered in Iraq. Whatever wisp of good will that the US might have been able to attain in Iraq has been deciminated by Yassin's killing, because Israel is our ally, and yes, a big part of the reason we are in Iraq and on the verge of fighting a long-term regional war is for the sake of Israel.

Why now should Iraqis cooperate with Americans, if Americans show themselves to be powerless, absolutely powerless, to urge restraint by Israel?

I have to conclude that elements in Israel, who like elements in the US, WANT this conflict to accelerate, to have an all out regional, or perhaps even international, war, the WWIV that Woolsey drools about.

They very well might get what they wish for. Do we Americans want this as well? Truly, people need to ask themselves this now and choose.
