Rummy asked about Clinton's daily principles meetings.
He's starting to stutter! He use to meet with the president weekly concerning Al Qaeda. Hmmmm, I wonder how things fell through the cracks during Bush administration's watch?

1. He just confirmed what Clarke said. It was al-qaeda was not high on the
Bush list. It was Iraq! Up to, including, and after 9/11 execpt for the one action against Afghanistan. Also, Rummy said that he, Condi, and Powell would meet and discuss terrorism and other issues. Clarke was correct in saying that he was not in the loop and expert advice on terrorism was not being put on the top of the list.

2. Well, they were pretty focused on those energy meetings
Edited on Tue Mar-23-04 05:09 PM by Old and In the Way
you know, the ones that involved pre-planning the Iraq invasion and divvying up the oilfields.

Geesh, they did have priorities, afterall.

5. So why else would they be building all the new army bases in Iraq?
I am sure to watch our oil under their sands. We will be in Iraq for the next 50 years I guess. They most likely planned it as soon as Bush got in. Every thing is about how much money business can make. The End.

3. Wolfowitz, immediately changes the subject of the direct question
Edited on Tue Mar-23-04 05:11 PM by keithyboy
this is a common tactic of the neocons. The impact of the direct question is completely lost. Next will be the reframing of the question that Roemer asked.

4. Clinton's team was more pro-active about counter-terrorism. There's
no question about that. They met daily and they took the chatter seriously.

Powell couldn't even answer how much time he spent on counter-terrorism meetings. If it consumed him every day, it would be easy for him to judge.

7. No, Clinton had weekly meetings on terrorism
when he was president. Bush did not.

11. it was fascinating
And to me, it confirmed Clarke's book.

Here the Clinton strategy was laid out...daily principle meetings, highest level, structured, definite priorities, information sharing, etc.

And what did the Bush team do? Lunch! Yes, instead of structured fact-sharing meetings, they did the occasional lunch. No staff, no briefing papers, just shoot-the-shit breezy lunches.

Lunch. That's the extent of their serious preparations during an extended period of high chatter. Lunch. End of controversy, impeach the bastards.

12. Aren't you glad that the adults are back in charge?!!! So studious, wise
and level-headed. I seem to remember that Smirky was consumed with getting that tax cut package through. That seemed to be the BIG thing that he was talking about during that month long vacation at the ranch.

13. ...and don't forget
While * was on his month-long hiatus at the pig farm, Asscroft's FBI wasn't hunting down terrorists who were practically jumping up and down in front of him with their known flight training activities, he was chasing down a bogus McDonald's game.

Remember that? The FBI, in the month before 9/11, was 'investigating' McDonalds.

Yes, the adults certainly were in charge.
