Suggesting Story Ideas to NPR

The producers, editors, reporters and hosts of NPR programs are always eager for new stories, fresh ideas, and articulate guests to communicate those ideas and stories. NPR programs cover every subject: international news, science, health, business, media, sports, education, the arts, and entertainment. A number of programs offer analysis, commentary and opinion, and we are always interested in the remarkable things people do and the odd things that happen as a result of life's quirks and coincidences.

2. Remeber, phrase everything as a "quirk" or "coincidence"
like, oh, say, "it's such a quirk and coincidence that Antonin Scalia is such a crony of the VP's that they end up on duck hunting trips AND he's the guy responsible for making sure that Bush became president."

"Could you please do a hard-hitting story on this coincidence? It's just too quirky to ignore!"

4. Bob Edwards's next story
"I awoke one day to find that I was 56 years old. Then NPR fired me. What a coincidence!"

5. Thanks for posting the link. Here's the suggestion I sent.

Hi,

I'd like to suggest that one of your NPR news programs does a story on PNAC (Project for a New American Century) www.newamericancentury.org . PNAC is a neo-con think tank that promotes the idea that the US should take advantage of the end of the cold war by using any necessary means to ensure its worldwide economic and military domination and to allow no other countries or alliances to grow to the point where they would be a in a position to challenge the US for supremacy. The PNACers advocate that the US form alliances with lesser powers if possible but should be prepared to abrogate treaties and act unilaterally as it sees fit when confronting any perceived threats to its interests.

It is documented that the PNAC neo-con think was instrumental in pushing for a US invasion of Iraq going back to the Clinton administration. Since many senior Bush Administration people are PNAC members or have signed onto PNAC position papers and in light of the ongoing controversy over Iraq and the increasing amount of evidence that the US was led into an illegal war for bogus reasons, I think it is an issue that should be investigated and reported on to fill in some of the missing parts of the puzzle for your viewers. I hope it won't be the case that any in depth discussion of PNAC and its influence on the Bush administration is off limits to you guys as it apparently is to the corporate broadcast media types (surprise, surprise).

The beauty of this topic for NPR is that most of the research has already been done for you and is easily available on various web sites where PNAC has been a popular topic of discussion for quite some time now. For example, here is a Democratic Underground thread on PNAC with links to various articles in newspapers, magazines and other web sites.
