Is DU Banned from Military and Government Internet System?
I'm not much of a tinfoil hatter. I work am in the military, and in some spare time I used to surf the net and would read DU. I never posted from work, because I think that could be a problem.

The problem is that for the last 3 days, whenever I try to get to DU from my work computer I get the dreaded 500 HTTP error. When I get home (like now), I get on, no problem. I can pull up CNN, CBS, ESPN, etc. at work, but not DU for the last 3 days.

Has there been some type of problems with the site lately, or is it possible that DU has been banned from government computers?

I'm not very computer savvy, but this just strikes me as weird.

4. my experience
I work as a civilian in the Pentagon and I'm having the same problem accessing DU but NO PROBLEM accessing Free Republic or Smirking Chimp. Maybe it's DU's name, it must sound subversive to the internet police.

Here's a thread from Hawker before he retired discussing a similar problem.

3. It's very possible...
There's a web crawling program the government sends out that shows up on logs as "bu-wcs1-sand.nipr.mil". I think it's very possible they could be looking for sites to block. My site (http://www.ProgressiveReview.com) has been visited several times by them. I don't know if it's blocked by military computers or not though.

8. http500 is an internal error from the responding server
which means DU is unable to respond to your request properly. More likely than conspiracy is your firewall (this protects your internal network from the wilds of the internet)is doing something 'funky' to your http request packets causing them to be processed incorrectly. If your firewall was blocking access altogether, you would receive nothing from DU. It could also be that the proxy (local to your site) is having an issue...
