Canadian reaction
Yesterday I had to go to Canada to a business meeting. The man I was meeting with was very unresponsive and distant. I had the feeling that he was not receptive to any of my attempts to engage him in the process of the meeting.

I stopped in mid sentence and said, "Do you think our President is as big a jerk as we do?" He stopped cold and then smiled and made a few appropriate comments and by the time I left we had accomplished everything we started out to do and we we best buddies.

4. Yeah
anywhere outside the US, keep that approach. Anywhere down here in the southern US, watch your back. People down here are given into cult like thinking anyway, so rightwing rhetoric works down here.

5. Just as I suspected. Bush is not only a threat to peace but he's also
a threat to our commercial interests too. The man is killing this country.

6. Yes
The rise of the EU as a dominant economic factor is happening as our policies weaken us in the world. The push for US global hegemony in the world is creating the opposite desired effect.

7. Sometimes "unresponsive and distant" is just our Canadian reserve.
Though I really should avoid sweeping generalizations of all of my fellow Canuckleheads. It seems more of a central Canadian, or even just a Torontonian, quality. We're simply not as warm and outgoing as Americans. That can be mistaken for rudeness, but it's not really. It's just our way. (Though I'd be hard pressed to find a warmer people than Newfoundlanders.)

It's something of a cliche, but it's also been my experience. I find NYC, for instance, a much friendly city than my hometown of Toronto.

8. Thunder Bay
Where I am from, is well described by your depiction of Toronto. So it may indeed be an Ontario thing.

9. I love Canadians. I happen to have been in Montreal.
Would love to visit Toronto though. I hear it an amazing place.
