Why did Clarke wait so long to come out? When did he resign?
This question just keeps coming back at me.

Anyone have any good answers?

1. on your first question
Just speculation...

Clarke was a 30 year veteran in his field. It probably took awhile for the horror (and the futility of oppostion to the horror) to set in. The fact that he recognized the futility of opposition at all speaks volumes in and of itself.

2. Clarke resigned about 13 months ago
according to his testimony yesterday - he "waited so long" because he was working on cyber-security project that he felt was vital for the "terra-war"

Clarke said he was extremely frustrated and asked for a reassignment - he took over the cyber-security project

the impression I got was if he wasn't re-assigned then he would have quit at that point

3. It takes a long time to write a decent book
No matter why he quit, he would be sure to write one, given his long and illustrious career in interesting and important jobs. Everyone who's spent a lifetime in public service at the highest levels does that - it's their retirement booster.

6. Could he not have spoke with reporters and or written articles as
Joe Wilson, Rand Beers, Karen K., David Kay, etc., and all the rest have? Where has he been? He knew all of this prior to 3/20/2003 when we as a nation started dropping bombs on Iraq. Sorry. I appreciate what he has to say now. It just took too long.

5. Right-wing talk show hosts have been repeating this for at least 2 days
It appears their simple minds imagine if he didn't come forward long ago, publically, they can claim it's highly suspect that he is speaking up now.

These same people also believe there shouldn't be any time limit on the number of crimes they wanted to investigate concerning Bill Clinton.

Odd way of looking at things.

8. I'm still looking for justice over Iran-Contra Affair
It disturbs me tremendously to see them all back running things again.

9. No, he's not doing this as a publicity stunt.
It took a while to write the book & the White House delayed publication. However, they couldn't find anything wrong in the book & are now embarrassed that it's been released at a politically awkward time for them.

11. He hadto get the courage to "come out". The threats to his family and....
himself had to faced.

I don't think anybody - including me -realize the nerves of steel, backbone. etc. that he has had to display to EVER take on this administration. Especially in view of the recent O'Neil fiasco.

12. The book was timed for the 911 hearings
And being this close to the election it works well to hurt bush. It could not have been timed better. The Dems have hit a home run with Clarke.

13. Sorry, but the White House spent 8 months reviewing Clarke's material...
....they have no one to blame but themselves for the timing.

14. The Book Was Held By The BUSH WHITE HOUSE For 4 Months
Otherwise it would have been released LAST YEAR.

The White House had to review it first and THEY are the ones who sat on it for 3-4 months.

15. No, the book was timed for release some months ago.
It's the fault of the White House that it is being released now.

Try another one.
