Let's follow my reactions to the "news analysis" of a Bush speech on the 24 hour news networks, shall we?
I'm sooo thankful for the constant captioning on every 24 hour news network. Dubya delivers his standard "policy talk" (read: fundraiser) speech. And what's this at the bottom of my TV screen? Why, it's a paraphrase of what Our Enlightened Leader just said! "Bush: Tax Cuts Make Economy Stronger."
Gee thanks, MSNBC! I can walk the streets again, secure in the knowledge that there are news networks to tell me what Boosh said just five seconds before! Ahh. *deep breath* I feel so... so... enlightened!
And what's this on Fox? Why, it's someone telling me that this is Bush's greatest speech! Thanks, Mr. Colmes - but couldn't you let Hannity get a word in edgewise every now and again?!? Poor guy hardly gets a chance to speak!
Back to MSNBC, I guess --- Oh, look, it's the oh-so-bipartisan Peggy Noonan. What's that you say, Peggy? Greatest President since... since... Reagan?!? Wow. Way to go Georgie! All you need is a jar of jellybeans and you'll be the Second Coming of the ALMIGHTY SAINT RONNIE (cue flourish)!
Yes, of course, Chris Matthews - that was a very Churchillian moment when Bush said, "We're smokin' 'em out." And I really saw elements of Gladstone when he shook his shoulders and giggled like a stoned eight year old. And that smirk! That smirk! Oh, Peggy, I see you've wet your seat...
