"Bush has better chance of re-election than ANY president in history"
Was watching CNN today. They let the DNC chairperson speak, and then switched over to a republican to get the "other side" of the story. (interesting how republicans get to speak last)

Anyway - the guy actually said that out of ALL presidents in US history Bush has the best chances for re-election.

It reminds me back in 2000 months before the election one of Bush's campaign staff said on CNN that they didn't want to do something (I forget what) during the campaign because it would "hurt Bush's chances for re-election".

Pretty damn confident. Hopefully it will be the downfall of the repubs come 2004.

19. Message to rethugs: stay home.
Your boy is going to win easily so why bother showing up on election day. Just stay home and count your tax cut. The more I hear this kind of talk the happier I am.

23. Exactly
Let them think it will be a walk in the park for Bush. I think there are enough Repubs who are just as likely to stay home than go to the polls for Bush, and this works heavily in our favor.

The challenge is to keep the Dems from thinking it will be a landslide and there's no point in voting. This is where Dean comes in, he makes people WANT to vote.

2. There's that whole idea of manipulating the views of the public
One thing I remember learning in AP Government was how the public will often shift their opinions to go along with the majority, as long as it's not a truly polarizing issue. Perhaps the RNC feels that if its members say "Bush will be reelected no matter what" he might have an easier time and that it might shift his poll numbers. Or something like that.

18. Yes
So the Democrats can try to counter that by driving his poll numbers down. They do what they can do the same thing as Bush's people, only with a different goal in mind.

6. The "inevitability" strategy
One of the standard tools in Rove's toolbox. They just start acting like they've already won, and people believe 'em and it pushes 'em over the top. Used in in 2000 and 2002 to good effect. Unless you think it was really the voting machines....

9. I think Clinton 96 beats Shrub's chance
He totally flounced Dole--and it came as no surprise to anyone I know. Shrub is floating in the 40's for election numbers--I don't care how much lipstick they put on their pig, it's still a pig.

12. Even More than Raygun?
If they think that Dumbya has the best chance for re-election of any president in history, then they are really blinded by ideology.

The "bus tour" and some of the comments in the NYT article should be a good indicator of how folks feel. I know the fact that Jebco is Dumbya's brother hasn't brought any additional jobs here is not resting well with folks who were dumb enough to vote for Shrub and are now looking for work in the Bush eCONomy.

24. Dumbya has a better chance than George Washington did in 1792???
Washington was essentially unopposed in the election of 1792.

The arrogance of these schmucks is overwhelming

27. Republicans better chances have been handed to them.
I know that the Democratic party is quite upset at the high chances of the Republicans winning the Presidency, but they handed it to them. Bush is WIDE OPEN to being removed from office in 2004 with issues like around 1 million IT tech jobs being sent over seas, many thousand being given to foreign nationals here within the borders of our own country. You wonder why there is not much money being spent bringing up the economy look no further than India. The IT workers are one of the biggest groups buying houses, autos, nice items to put in a house etc., but now I guess Indians are doing that over seas.

Of course Democrats COULD do something about it if they were not in bed with the Republicans on that issue. So they have to sit down and shut up due to their co-guilt on the issue.

Then there is the flood if illegals coming over our borders by the thousands. Unfortunatly they are looked upon for votes by Democrats and for cheap labor for Republicans so once again another excellent chance to get rid of Bush is out the window and the Democrats have no choice but sit down and shut up due to their co-guilt on the issue.

There are other items of which would include: NAFTA (this one will allow Mexican truckers on our highways which will put even more Americans out of work and with those fine quality trucks from Mexico, I am really looking forward to the slaughter on our highways), GAT.

17. More voodoo math
It is an absurd statement. All of the following Presidents had a 100% of getting reelected (since they did) Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, Lincoln, Wilson, Cleveland, Roosevelt, Ike, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton. And I am sure I left some out. It is mathematicly impossible for Bush to have a greater chance of reelection than those.

22. Loada crap.
Sure, better than either Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan, Clinton, or even Washington or Jefferson. Or even Nixon.

"Tell a lie enough times and it becomes the truth."

I would not expect any Republican to come out and say that we've been through two wars and the country isn't any more secure, we've had three tax cuts and we're going bankrupt, the few people who have decent jobs are terrified of losing them, and environmental destruction continues at an increasing pace-- so the only way the Democratic candidate could lose is by shooting himself in both feet.
