But if half of us can still access the site, and the other half can't...there's some technical issue on freerepublic's side.

My guess is that they have more than one server and one of them is down...whether or not you can access the site depends on which one you're directed to when you enter the URL in your browser.

As I said, that's just a guess. Let's hope everyone is having problems with the site.

One thing I've noticed is an utter lack of any posts dealing with the Iraq occupation or the constant violence in Haiti and this is going on three days running now.

I know Jimbo recently posted some big manifesto explaining FR's mission of purpose and I wonder if he's actually shut down any discussion on Iraq because of the the constant casualties suffered by the native populace.

With Rush and Sean Hannity constantly referencing FR as a source, I'm thinking Jim Rob decided that there were way too many inflamatory posts of the "nuke Mecca" type and flat out racist remarks that he was afraid that curious browsers would see what a bunch of far right losers make up the FR posting population.

But, then again half of their manifesto reads like an encyclopedia of hate and intolerance so perhaps I'm wrong on my previous assumption.

They are switching servers and possibly ISPs. If the pages are messed up, they may have had something go wrong when transferring the site to a new machine. The reason some cansee it and others can't is because their new Domain Name Server assignment hasn't fully propagated through the network.

I went through this earlier in the week. Relax people. I don't think they are going anywhere. The trolls still have their Troll Booth.

I had the same issue last night with this site (The Democratic Underground).

The front page would come up and the article links would work but not the ones to the forum or for logging in.

I suppose there could be technical similarities to this issue, perhaps both sites use the same hosting or whatever or it could be just a coincidence.

Or .... (tinfoil hats on) we could be seeing an example of rival hackers having at each other.

A short while back Salon had its Table Talk forums experience a severe technical meltdown. It lasted for days and some data was lost.

OK, that's extremely far fetched but I can't help but to wonder.
