Kerry's silence is the right thing to do
Let the press (either way) hammer this, let the commission (phony though it is) have their day in the sun - bushies will never be able to come back to claim that kerry said or did that this and the other.

1. Kerry has always been excellent at knowing when to shut up
I wish Dean had that talent

2. Kerry Is Doing the Right Thing
If he were to come out now defending Clarke it would give the claims of Clarke's partisanship more credence.

Kerry so far is playing this just right. Clarke is damn good at defending himself, he doesn't need Kerry. Kerry can appear above the fray and roll out his positive, issues campaign.

4. I agree 1000000%. Just let the bush regime hang themselves...we're just
handing them the rope.

Kerry doesn't need to add ANYTHING to this.

VERY wise move.

5. The whores are chomping at the bit for a Clarke-Kerry tie-in
It's best that Kerry takes the high road and avoids this.

8. Good that Kerry is just letting this process run...
Bush is taking plenty of hits without Kerry's involvement. Let's let Kerry appear above the fray, and if Clarke should self-destruct for some reason, Kerry will not be affected.

9. Yes. 9-11 is radioactive territory
Look how Bush's firemen's ads backfired. Best to lay off.

10. Absolutely, and isn't it neat that this is all coming down. . .
right after Bush's pre-mature roll out of the negative campaign against Kerry?

11. You got it.
Let the enemy hang themselves. Stay out of the fray John. We're watching the slow but sure dismantling of the gop.

15. I think you're right
As I said in another post...this is only the beginning. Certain members on the commission will push this as far as it has to go for some level of justice to be served.

not have been out there trying to compete with bush as he was having his crass Iraq invasion celebration. Kerry criticizing bush during his celebration, especially since Kerry voted to authorize the invasion (if need be) would have been awkward. Things worked out just right.

13. Agreed. Kerry cannot appear to play politics with this one
And anyway, the Party-Loyal Bushevik Sub-Media will excoriate him 24/7 with lies and quarter-truths no matter hwat he does, anyway, and will accuse him of playing politics with it whether he shuts up or speaks now.

But shutting up makes the O'Reichleys of the world look even more foolish and creepily Orwellian than they already do.

14. Absolutely
The Democrats must avoid any appearances that this commission is political in nature. The charges will inevitably be made (and have already started), but right now they just don't have any credibility to them. As long as Kerry and other political figures leave it alone, this will continue to be the case. If Kerry is asked questions about it he should say something like "I do not want to interfere with the commission's task to get to the bottom of 9/11" or something to that effect.

Incidentally, I believe the commission is trying to get the Bush Administration to discredit itself by admitting it did not do enough on 9/11. If they don't do this, then they will have to push further and further until the dam breaks. I can guarantee you 100% that not one person on the commission wants to push this thing as far as it can go, but I do believe that certain members of the commission (Ben Veniste for example) will make sure it is pushed as far as it must be to bring down the Bush Administration. Keep in mind, this is only the beginning. We have yet to even begin testimony on what actually happened the day of 9/11, which is when the real fireworks could potentially begin.
