Mayor Bloomberg Proposes Huge New Stadium Project
Now I love stadiums. I hate the Jets, but love stadiums. And the NYC2012 Olympics idea, along with New York City, my former home for 10 years.

But this plan seems WAY WAY WAY over the top. Build a 75,000 seat stadium ON THE WEST FREAKIN SIDE AND EXPAND THE JAVITTS CENTER??? Have they all gone mad?!?!?!?

1. new stadium
I have to be honest with you, I have heard a lot of protests to this stadium and I don't know what the problem is. The area where they're proposing to build the stadium is over the railyards on the west side. There's really nothing else there that I'm aware of, other than warehouses.

I live in Brooklyn and the proposed arena for the Nets that they're going to build here is going to displace a lot of people. That's not fair at all.

I don't think that's the case with the stadium for the Jets, but then again I haven't seen the actual architectural plans. If you know where I might be able to view them, please let me know.

2. That part of the West Side is fairly undeveloped.
There really ain't that much there. As someone previously posted, they wouldn't be displacing many people. And that part of the West Side really does need to be redeveloped. My only question is the money involved. So MANY damn billions. They would have to extend the 7 train west to make this work, and New Yorkers knows how traumatic, disruptive and expensive new subway construction is. But they'll HAVE to do that, because right now it takes forever to get to the Javitts Center if, like me, you're coming up from the East Village, say. Take a subway to Penn Station and then walk, walk, walk. Cross-town buses are bullshit. They take too long, becuz the traffic is so awful.

3. And using taxpayer dollars to build it!!
The island of Manhattan does not need one more excuse for traffic, congestion and extra people roaming about. It is too crowded already - this will be a nightmare in practice!

Put it in Queens, the Bronx, or better yet Staten Island - Use water taxis from the mainland or public transportation.

Bloomberg sucks!!
