BC liberal party - you won't believe this one
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 07:40 PM by HEyHEY
They walk out during question period because of a gripe with Joy Macphail. It's just pathetic they would waste taxpayer resources, and time, and money because someone isulted their party. They have gone way too far again. How can we run a balanced government if anytime someone speaks out about a government - they throw a fit and leave question period. I don't know if Macphail's allegations were true, but even if they weren't slam her for lying and carry-on, you don't just leave the legislature.

Place gripes here.

3. That's different
The Texas Dems were trying to block a blatantly unconstitutional redistricting move... the minority rebelling against a tyrannical majority (the Republicans).

7. I disagree
Protest is protest, and whenever you decide to take your marbles and go home, you've taken the path of least resistance...

8. They didn't "take their marbles and go home"
By leaving, they blocked the vote and drew national attention to the scumbag activities of the Republican party.

2. what a bunch of wimps!
For the uninitiated -- Campbell's party got 77 seats in the last election, and the NDP got 2 (Joy, and her colleague Jenny). The truth is that many of the BC Lib MLAs are so slack and unprepared that they truly are afraid of Joy (who basically acted as the entire opposition when Jenny had to take time out to give birth!). I know people who work "downtown", and they have said that many of the cabinet members (who traditionally are chosen from the sharper and more experienced MLAs) are a tremendous disappointment.

their election signs are blue, they speak Tory, they act Tory... they should stop disgracing the Liberal name.

5. Thanks for the posts.......I like learning about what goes on with our
esteemed neighbors to the north.

After our travails are over, I will look into what's going on in Canada. Matter of fact, I want to know what's going on in any number of countries. Peace

NDP allegations spark Liberal walkout in Question Period
Dirk Meissner
Canadian Press
Thursday, March 25, 2004

VICTORIA (CP) - Blood-sport politics in British Columbia has punched to a new low, says a bedridden backbench Liberal accused by the opposition New Democrats of inappropriate behaviour at a party convention two years ago.

The NDP allegations sparked a blistering bedside denial by Vancouver area MLA Richard Stewart, a father of four, and a walkout in the legislature Thursday by Liberal colleagues who demanded an apology from the NDP.

/snip/

Joy MacPhail, NDP house leader, said she accepted Stewart's denial, but refused to apologize for making the allegations.

Joy MacPhail

"Credible sources came to us and outlined the alleged behaviour," she said."The MLA from Coquitlam Maillardville has denied both the behaviour and the discipline and we take him at his word."

MacPhail's refusal to apologize to Stewart sparked a walkout by the majority of Liberal members during the daily question period.
