A little fact checking
Claim vs. fact

The Center for American Progress has been digging into the archives to help clarify claims made by the Bush White House as it tries to repair the damage from revelations made in the 9/11 commission public hearings and the newly released book by former counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke.

Today in a speech in New Hampshire, President Bush defended his administration's actions before 9/11, saying: "Had I known that the enemy was going to use airplanes to strike America, to attack us, I would have used every resource, every asset, every power of this government to protect the American people."

But CAP quickly found previous reports that the president was told of the possibility that al-Qaida was exploring the use of airliners as terror weapons, including against U.S. targets:

FACT: On August 6, 2001, President Bush personally "received a one-and-a-half page briefing advising him that Osama bin Laden was capable of a major strike against the US, and that the plot could include the hijacking of an American airplane."
-- Dateline NBC, 9/10/02 (Transcript in Nexis)

1. They did do something
They used the resources to hide.
Can you name one White House official who was in New York during 9/11?

3. IF we had actual journalists doing television news, they'd have

pointed this out as soon as Bush* made his Mr. Sincerity "I will protect you" comments today. I certainly remembered what info he had been given at that point, namely that Al Qaeda planned to attack us or American interests abroad, possibly using hijacked airplanes. I even remembered that he got this info in August.

Not to mention that in June, 2001, when he attended the G-8 conference in Genoa, he stayed on a ship in the harbor rather than on land due to talk of Al Qaeda attacks on him from the air. There were other precautions, too, as I recall, such as restricting air traffic.

It's obvious that the Bushies follow the strategy of "repeat the lie often enough and people will believe it." (Who said that originally? Stalin? Lenin?)

The Bushies lie and the media doesn't point out the lies unless forced to.

Call in to talk shows and write letters to the editor about this. It's the only way to fight it.

4. Why is this thread sinking? Have y'all been talking about this

all day? (But what about the evening crew?)

Everyone's mad at CatWoman? (Surely not!)

Don't like facts? (Nah, then you'd be Republicans!)

What gives here? I'm really annoyed that Bush* is playing fast and loose with the truth and the media is allowing him to get away with it!
