15. Thompson used to be the chief U.S. prosecutor in Chic. - a big shot lawyer
and Clarke made mince-meat out of him! That Clarke guy is an amazing man... It's going to be tough for the Pubs to try to bring him down. He's not intimidated in the least.

3. It is one more sign of how far we have fallen.
The only constant source of journalistic integrity comes from the fake news.

11. The fake news and the comics
are two of the few truth-tellers out there. It's really sad.

17. I'm still laughing at the look on Stewart's face ...
... the night that they exposed the "fake news" segment that the White House itself had produced as propaganda.

He was just savoring the moment -- getting to slap Bush for trying to out-fake the Daily Show. Hah!

6. We're sick of taking it
Al Franken.
Jon Stewart: Do you fear becoming the thing you hate?
Franken: No.
His liberal radio show starts on March 31. At noon.

22. He was explaining his
new liberal radio talk show which will begin on March 31st at noon. Stewart announced the show and Franken was responding how there will now be an outlet on the radio for liberals -- going up against the hateradio folks. And Stewart's question was about whether Franken would become what he hates...a blowhard hatetalker. Franken's comments were, essentially, NO. We're no liars. We don't make stuff up. We're dealing with facts.

8. In any totalitarian society
...the only media personalities allowed to speak the truth are the comedians.

You have only to look at the level of corporate media concentration in this country to know our once free press is already totalitarian.

13. Just like Germany: Cabaret Spoke the Truth
Entertainers and Comedians criticized the government when the media was no longer allowed to do so. We haven't come that far, have we?

14. First you would have to believe we EVER had a free press.
Has a poor man ever owned a newspaper? A radio station?

When did rich men support and give a voice to the left?

Our best hope was to have rival rich men who disagreed with each other.

Monopolies have cut down on that rivalry and therefore our chance of being heard.

But let's not be delusional.

Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 12:45 AM by buycitgo
hundreds and hundreds of small newspapers, often owned by small coops and labor unions...lots of poulist jounralism being practiced, but we couldn't allow that to continue

Rich Media/Poor Democracy, by Robert McChesney has a chapter on that

we all know what's happened since then....down to, what, six, seven megalopolies?

that was what cracked me up about the asinine complaint about Clarke appearing on CBS, who apparently is owned by he same company as his publisher

what a surprise.

18. No, because you see
it's "comedy," so that if criticized, they can see, "Just kidding!"

It's similar to the way that The Simpson's can get away with political satire on the Fox Network. It's "just" a cartoon.
