Venezuela - Opposition admits lacking a united candidature (Granma

INTENT on destabilizing the government of President Hugo Chávez, the Venezuelan opposition is insisting on transforming itself into an electoral option, whether for a possible recall referendum or for the upcoming regional elections. In spite of that ambition, it was forced to admit on March 22 that it is experiencing serious "difficulties in making a unified candidature for the regional elections in August."

Felipe Mujica, director of the Democratic Coordinating Committee (CD), told ANSA that it is very difficult to overcome "Chavismo" without the unity needed to face the upcoming regional and municipal electoral confrontations.

The opposition itself admitted to the AP that they "it needed a unified candidature candidates for the countries municipal and regional leaderships to confront the government’s candidates." The final date (for nominations) was March 23, according to the National Electoral Council.
