The Kerry, Gomer Pyle comparison picture e-mail

This may have been mentioned before, but the post about the urban legend (got that one too) made me remember this particular e-mail from apparently some clueless and desperate Republicans.

The e-mail starts by saying "Shazaam!" You click on the attachment, and there's two pictures, side by side, of Gomer Pyle and John Kerry in military uniform. Apparently, Kerry "looks" like Gomer Pyle.

I responded back this way:

"Yeah, Gomer Pyle alright. Served his country, wounded in combat, decorated with the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three awards of the Purple Heart.

What was Bush doing? Oh yeah, defending our home state of Texas from the Viet Cong due to Poppy Bush's pull with the National Guard. While Kerry was fighting and getting wounded in Nam, little Georgie boy was getting "bombed" on booze and cocaine.

So, who is the war hero? Gomer Pyle and Kerry did much more good for their country than little Georgie ever did."

The audacity of sending that. Don't they know we have more ammunition than they do? The "Mission Accomplished" event, Bush never going to Vietnam, the AWOL story, etc. This was the height of GOP stupidity. They are, without a doubt, very nervous and desperate. President Clinton said last night that the thugs are making a good man into a cartoon, and they are proving him right.

Oh, and I got no reply back on my e-mail. How can one refute facts?

Kerry is too distinct looking, I doubt its anywhere near as good a comparison as the chimp pictures

Just some good-natured fun. Besides, Gomer (you'll remember) was a very nice guy who as a marine had loyalty and gave it his all. Nothing at all to be ashamed of.

10. I don't believe that they were comparing Gomer's good qualities

Gomer was really nice, but a dufuss and really not the example of a top notch Marine. This is just a way, I believe, of trying to undermine Kerry's commitment and bravery in Nam.

But, as another leftie friend of mine pointed out, Kerry looks more like Lurch than Gomer.

This is war, plain and simple. Besides, I thought my e-mail back was pretty rational and not "sputtering" at all. We've got to fight fire with fire.

By the way, I believe they are also attempting a Dukakis-in-the-tank image of Kerry. They have absolutely no respect for what Kerry has done, and they sure misunderstand it.
