Calling all Minnesotans (and some SoCalers)
OK, I admit. We live in Republican districts, close to where the job - the reason why we moved to MN - is.

The other day we got "surveys" from both our assemblyman and our Congressman. At first I was going to toss them, but when I saw that some of them are about the marriage "definition" - well decided to take a closer look.

First the Jeff Johnson's survey:

Don't have children in schools, so am not sure about this one"

1.What do you view as the most important K-12 education issue that the Legislature should examine?

A. Increase funding
B. increase school district accountability
C. Performance-based pay for teachers
D. Expanding school choice
F. Other...

2. Do you support revoking drivers license of students who are chronically absent from school (health-related absences are exempted)??

3. Do you support the governor's "FAST" lanes toll proposal to add highway lanes in the Twin Cities metro area (tolls would be paid only by those who use them)?

4. Do you support building a second highway beltway around the Twin Cities metro area? (I think that I do...)

5. Would you vote for a constitutional amendment limiting overall state spending to the rate of inflation plus a population growth? (don't know, did not follow this..)

6. Death penatly... forget it!!

7. Constitutional amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman... forget it!!

8. Support any of the proposal changing legislative branch operations;

- initiative and referendum.... I think not. Lived in CA where laws were determined by yesterday's headlines instead of by serious (one hopes) debate in a place where debates are supposed to take place

- limiting number of bills per legislator... that's stupid, I think. I think it is dumbing down legislation.... unless I am missing something.

- Limiting number of time Legislature can meet to once very two years???? Not sure. What's this about?

- Unicameral Legislature? Don't know. I think that two houses is part of the check and balances that we have...

======

Now for the Ramstad's survey:

1. Do you support the President's $1 trillion to send human to Mars? ....not if at the expense of Hubbel...

2. Do you support turning Iraq to Iraqi people on or before 6/30 and begin gradual withdrawal of American troops? ...Yes, what's the alternative..?

3. Limit definition of marriage? (you gotta be kidding)

4. Should Congress reauthorize the welfare reform law which requires able-bodied recipients to work? ...I don't like these one-size fits all regulations. Remember the story in Bowling for Columbine? A mother who had to take the bus 60 miles, or so, to work and her kid ended up shooting someone?...

5. Bush's Amnesty to illegal immigrants? ...This is hard. Obviously they come here because they can find jobs that others do not.. and.. this country was founded on immigration. But in California places get crowded and crowded and houses get expensive and expensive... I know that my former neighbors in Orange County are very much against it, but would like to hear from a Democrat who live in SoCal..

6. Should the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts be made permanent? ...Hell no!!

7. Should Congress continue the ban on certain semiautomatic rifles... known as "assault weapons?" ...Hell Yes!!

8. Should the Federal government fund its promised 40 percent share of special education costs to local school district? ...yes, I suppose..

9. Do you support faith-based initiative.. to compete with secular program? ...Hell no! You mean one has to declare that s/he found Jesus to be helped?..

10. Do you support the President's proposal for refundable tax credits and vouchers to make health insurance more affordable? ..Yes, I think. Not sure about this...

=====

Here they are. Please take your shots. Once I send them back I will probably be put on a special list labeled: keep out..

1. we got a mailing
from Mark Kennedy today mailed at the taxpayers expense what talked about the economy growing and the tax cuts are good. I called his office and asked the guy who answered if he could tell Congressman Kennedy for me that my family cannot afford anymore tax cuts. I then repeated myself emphasing CANNOT AFFORD ANYMORE TAX CUTS. With each tax cut we have had to come up with more for school activities, we now have to pay to bus the kids to school and the list goes on.

2. Seems that the gay marriage agenda is off.
Wish that more dived into this, though.

3. Scary stuff, and then there's Ramstad...
"People would NEED to pay a toll in order to use them..." Spun out of control, that survey is...

#5 is TABOR. They did it in Colorado and their state turned to diarrhea. If it's done in MN, expect everything to go to hell. Literally.

Ramstad's an idiot shill for the * misadministration too.

4. It happened in California long ago. It's happening in Colorado now...
...and it will happen to Minnesota.

That thing is white-flight, conservative Californication.

5. I got the one from Ramstad also
On the line where he asks what you think is the most important issue facing I wrote "Trying Bush and several other members of his administration for treason."

BTW on question 10, I voted no. I think vouchers and tax credits are just a bandaid it really won't do a thing to make health insurance more affordable and it sure won't do anything to help people who currently do not have insurance get insurance. They pass something like that and it will be used as a reason why we don't need single payer.
