The Players Got Played - That spike in chatter before 9/11....
Earlier in the week, I posted that I believe:

They Expected a Hijacking, They Got 9-11....

Now we are hearing how immense the increase in chatter was prior to 9/11. Consider this:

Suppose the Bin Laden threatened a terror attack on the US if we kept threatening the Taliban (carpet of gold/carpet of bombs).

Further suppose that the neocons decided to allow said terror attack, (the PNAC Pearl Harbor) thinking that it would be, as Condi has said, a traditional hijacking.

Finally, suppose that, one way or another, it got back to Bin Laden that he was being given an "unguarded shot on goal." (My guess is through sympathizers in the Saudi Govt).

Now, knowing that no one was going to stop him, Bin Laden does two things:

1.) He ups the ante of his plans to attacks on the two World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and the White House.

2.) He presses for the completion of his plans with more-or-less open communications.

Because of the latter, the entire world's intelligence services start to hear the plans and start warning Washington. Hell, the regular CIA and the FBI get start to get clued in. But the Chimpster & Co. know it's coming, so they're trying to minimize the importance of the warnings.

If all this is true, there may be further bombshells to come, perhaps from foreign intelligence services.

3. I would not be surprised that ....
about half of that is correct. I think we did threaten them and they hit us before we could hit them and I think we did tell them we would give them a "carpet of gold or a carpet of bombs", and they beat us to the punch...something the White House could never have imagined.

As for the Saudis passing along the info, maybe?

4. My problem with this is that
a traditional hijacking, even with some crashed planes, would not have been a sufficient shock to allow us to wage war. To be a "catastrophic and catalyzing event" like Pearl Harbor it would have to be as horrible as Pearl Harbor.

6. It could have allowed them to start the ball rolling and would have,,,
allowed them to bomb Afghanistan. And remember, the idea was to force the Taliban to see things our way. I don't think they wanted to get rid of the Taliban entirely. To date, all we control in Afghanistan is Kabul.

If I'm right, and they got surprised by the magnitude of 9-11, perhaps a monkey wrench got thrown in their plans. Perhaps a different "attack" was planned to finger Saddam. Who knows.

7. E X A C T L Y !
It may be that CONDI expected a "traditional hijacking." THAT DOESN'T MEAN EVERYONE IN THIS MALADMINISTRATION DID. As for shrub. I think he was even more clueless than Condi about what was really going on.

8. Kristen Breitweiser says..
Condi is either incompetent or lying. --and either way, she should testify before the 9-11 Commission under oath before the American people.

Condi is obviously a smart woman, but that doesn't mean she, too, is not ideologically blind, just like those other very intelligent neocons like Perle and Wolfowitz and Cheney.

I'm not too sure about whether or not I think Rummy is intelligent or simply cunning.

Bush falls into the cunning category. He could very well have been out of the loop, because his function is head cheerleader.

Cheerleaders don't have to know the plays the quarterbacks have called in order to whip the crowd into a frenzy.

5. documents and testimony re: awareness of suicide hijackings
Bookmark this blog..it is a MUST READ, truly exceptional source.

http://www.thememoryhole.org/memoryblog/

The blog for The Memory Hole

Sibil Edmonds quote in Salon today-

"'I'm hoping the commission asks him real questions -- like, in April 2001, did an FBI field office receive legitimate information indicating the use of airplanes for an attack on major cities? And is it true that through an FBI informant, who'd been used for 10 years, did you get information about specific terrorist plans and specific cells in this country? He couldn't say no," she insists.'"

From a Classified CIA Assessment of 9/11

"'We do not know the process by which Bin Ladin and his lieutenants decided to hijack planes with the idea of flying them into buildings in the United States, but the idea of hijacking planes for suicide attacks had long been current in jihadist circles.'"

"So we have the CIA admitting that hijacking passenger jets and ramming them into buildings had been a goal of Islamic terrorists for a long time. Yet last week we had Condoleezza Rice--among others--repeating her lie..."

From Congress' 9/11 Investigation

"'In August 1998, the Intelligence Community obtained information that a group of unidentified Arabs planned to fly an explosive-laden plane from a foreign country into the World Trade Center. The information was passed to the FBI and the FAA.'"

"This is a direct quote taken from page 199 of Congress' final report on 9/11."

Pre-9/11 Warnings (A Small Sampling)

..available at the blog url above...again, this is a MUST READ...and then you can check out the web site...
