I have a crazy idea.. I am not 100% sure Bush wants to be re-elected.
This occurred to me today as i was watching the umpteenth replay of his idiotic joke at the press dinner the other night. Nobody is this stupid, I think there may be a possibility that deep inside he really isn't interested in being president any more. If you think about it, it will allow him to join the carlyle group with the old man, and do speaking engagements etc.. He is a very lazy person and i imagine the job is really taking its toll on him.

I know it's a crazy thought, but does anyone else think there is a chance that he is sabotaging his re-election effort on purpose?

1. No, he's too dumb.
I'm sure this obligation is taking way more time than he was told it would but he isn't putting a whole lot of effort into this to figure out that he isn't going to be re-elected.

2. I beg to differ when you say "nobody is this stupid"
Bush Inc is unbelievably ARROGANT and THAT is what makes them STUPID.
And no way in HELL are they going to give up on their precious little puppet.

8. I agree that THEY will not give up on him.
I just think there's a chance that he's not on board as much as we think. I agree that he's a dry drunk, and most likely prone to self-sabotage. Look at his life, he always gets bailed out so failure isn't really an option for him.

If he continues with this idiotic flaps, it's only going to make me think this is really a possibility.

19. I Don't Think He Is Born Again

I bet if you asked him to tell you the difference between the old and the new testament he would say -- daaaa.

I don't think he is a real Christian at all.
He is a cheerleader. Once a cheerleader always a cheerleader if your daddy will get you out of jams for the rest of your life.

When does he go to Church? Where does he go to church?
How come I have never seen pictures of him with his darlings walking to church together. Most Born Agains that I know, would rein in their two teenagers or threaten to pull their American Express Cards.

11. Oh, he wants it all right
And it's not taking as much of a strain on him as you might think-he's not putting any effort into his stories. I believe it looks like he doesn't want to be re-elected for a very good reason-he really doesn't believe anyone can see through him.
Read Leo Strauss, the laughably-called "philosopher" that the NeoCons all love so much. To paraphrase:
There are 2 kinds of people in the world: the ones who realize that this is all there is, and get an absolute will-to-power, and those who are meek. Anything that those who crave power do in their quest is fine, because the "little people" that just want to live their lives don't really matter, since they have no will to power and thus no ability to oppose. They're just sheep, made to be ruled.
The whole NeoCon cabal has no compunction against lying their asses off like they have been doing, because they have so much contempt for the average person that they cease to even see anyone else as people- we "little people" just become statistics, not real in any sense.
The scary thing about the whole thing is that Straussian philosophy says, in effect, do whatever it takes to get what you want. What does that say about how things will go when things really go sour for the Repiglicans? Suddenly black box voting takes on a whole new necessity, doesn't it? Suddenly LIHOP/MIHOP is no longer fringe material, and may even happen again.
Yeah, he wants to be re-elected all right.

18. Your description of the Straussian mentality is correct.
But Bush is no Straussian. Probly never even heard of him before y2k. He's just a captive of the real neo-con Straussians.

BTW--ever notice how much Leo Strauss sounds like Aleister Crowley? "Do what thou wilt. That is the whole of the law."

20. Agreed
I can't say for sure that Bush is a Straussian, although I do believe that he's smarter than he gets credit for, and he hides behind his "Dumbya" image of the affable dolt.
Cheney-Straussian, definately, and he's pulling a lot of the strings;
Rove-DEFINATELY Straussian. I think he's had Strauss's brain surgically transplanted.
These 2 minions of evil are giving Bush the script, and I'm sure they're telling him not to worry, they have it all worked out.

21. Rove is a sort of instinctive Straussian
(which is to say, a high-functioning psychopath) although I doubt he ever formally studied Strauss. The whole PNAC cabal--or at least the portions of it with academic pretensions (Perle, Wolfowitz, Kristol, etc.)--are full-blown Straussians.

38. Again, agreed
Rove is a Straussian because thet's fundamentally the way he sees the world-there's what he wants, and the route to get it, and anyone in the way is "in the way". He's nicknamed the Prince of Darkness for a reason...

41. That is the Wiccan Rede
But Aleister Crowley's edict was--make no mistake about it--"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law", without the proscription against hurting others. Unlike Wiccans, who have a strong sense of responsibility towards the world and to others, Crowley just didn't give a fuck. Neither do the Bushies.

He could definitely have some subconcious self-sabotage going on.

That whole joke thing was a remarkably stupid move, but I think its
mostly about how he has been able to avoid the painful consequences of
reality all his life. He probably genuinely doesn't get why people are

16. Possibly, but the REPUBLICANS don't want to lose . . .
.
.
.

Bush had his "days of glory" - He "got" Saddam.

And he personally might just love to go back to his "old" ways and not have to "behave" for the American public.

I thought of this also, Junior not really caring whether or not he got back in office. And indeed, for Junior the Mission WAS "accomplished" after he toppled Saddam's regime.

As is evident in the aftermath that still exists in Iraq, little else mattered, as the rest of the world is scrambling trying to keep Iraq from falling into total ruin.

Junior never HAD a plan for "after".

So yah,

I think your idea is possible.

23. He doesn't want to lose, even though he may not want to be President.
I imagine he probably would be just fine not having the job...but there's no way a pathological narcissist would tolerate the humiliation of defeat, just on general principles. But I do believe that, left to his own devices, he'd be just fine not *doing* anything once he got in again. More wars, great, if someone else thinks them up; but he's not going to come up with the initiative himself. Mostly, I think his dream presidency would be just sitting in for a million photo ops, playing golf, being wined and dined and praised, praised, praised...and that's all. Ultimately I think he, himself, doesn't really care about the rest of the world, oil, PNAC, whatever, except insofar as it gets him more praise and attention. Cheney is the Brain to his Pinky, though, when it comes to the "bigger picture."

But no: he's certainly not making himself look bad on purpose, or trying to throw the election. He would NEVER do that, of that I'm sure.

26. I think his true personality is coming out
because he has been assured that the election is a "lock". That's why they can tell the 911 committee to shove it, why they can say "don'r listen to Clarke, true or false, he isn't one of us." I have thought for some time that he isn't really "into" running for "re-election" because it is boring - he has already won and this is just "play-acting". He would perfer another war on Tee Vee, that was fun! Maybe piss on some poor people and give their money to the rich, hee-hee, that's fun, too! I think the asshole is just a piss-poor actor.

33. His father did
and he had good reason to. If Bush I had stayed in office, Iran/Contra would've dragged him and his cronies down. It was much easier to allow a Democrat in, control Congress, and pardon all his buddies on the way out, of course making sure the Scaife Foundation was all over Clinton, so he couldn't be too big a hero.

Looking at his watch during a debate? A bit obvious, no?

Now, there is good reason to believe that Bush II has accomplished what he was put in to do. Saddam is deposed; they took a good crack at re-establishing the Cold War order of the world, and everybody's so spooked we had to run a moderate like Kerry, instead of a troublemaker like Dean.

I doubt Bush the Jr has a lot of fun being president, and most likely complains that the job is "hard."

Your theory is not the least bit crazy.

That doesn't mean it's true; it also doesn't mean we shouldn't fight like hell to get the bastards out.

34. I think they haven't figured out that the rules have changed
The "jokes" weren't just Bush's fault. They had to be put together by a staff of writers, and slides were prepared. This was not an impromptu gaffe.

12 months ago, he could have done something like this and the mainstream press wouldn't say a word. He was considered "a popular president". The press likes to tell you what they think you want to hear. It's all about the "storyline". Viewed through that angle, this wouldn't have made a dent.

Today, the storyline is changing. He's "embattled". There are "credibility problems". Viewed through this new angle, it's a gaffe. It reveals a callous disregard for an issue that troubles a great many people (the invasion of Iraq based on a lie)

The bushies have a crew of image makers. And, I think they haven't figured out the new play book yet. I'm not sure they can entirely adapt -- the convention in NYC in september is a hard one to work around.

37. BUSH KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE HE WANTS TO TAKE AMERICA
God, I live in Texas and I've heard this quote over and over and I keep thinking to myself, that I could give a shit what a C student, a cocaine whore, a miserable failure at business, a Resident that has a record comparable to Hoover....I could give a shit about what this MORAN thinks about where to take America.

I wish McCain or almost any other republican were in office before Shrub. At least I'd have the feeling that there would a bit of common sense, a bit of humility, and a bit of thinking. I get none of this from the current regime. His whole misadministration is Dr. Strangelove nonsense. I hate this President. I hate him.

I can imagine this 'moran' right now staying up after bedtime, barking at his advisors to find something on Clarke or plant it on him. What a complete creep he is. What a fraud he is.

I want my idea of government that is not entirely evil, I want that idea back!!!!
