All Al Franken needs to do to keep his show interesting and topical....

is to read The DU...:) I could run a radio show myself just from the topics that I read in GD...and it would burn the Repubs...and would challenge them on every front. I hope they use The DU in their new Air America programming. One thing is for certain, they will never be without material. :)

It won't be a week or two before there will be people on DU raging about how Air America has let them down.
"It's too mainstream", "It's too DLC", "Why does Franken stick up for the corporate whores?"

6. Just Remember DU is not mainstream

If there is a lot of humor and satire and no real bashing of others it may end up being the Godsend that is so terribly needed but if all it is, is a liberal version of the Hate Radio that currently pervades the airwaves it won't make it a year. DU is made up of gripers. Nothing will ever be good enough for most here. That is fine but not practical. Don't let perfect become the enemy of good. We must learn to compromise or we will never realize any of our dreams. Remember when a tugboat wishes to change the direction of a huge ship it doesn't do so by hitting it head on. It moves along side the ship heading in the same direction and gradually guides it around to the direction it needs to go.

:) Man, I am surprised every day. Yes, there are gripers but there are also some very excellent political analysts and commentators and humorists.

8. But you watched the skits he wrote....

Since he wrote about 80% of them from 75-80 (Belushi, Curtain, Morris)and 85-94 (Hartman, Crystal, Short, Carvey, Hooks). Most of the political stuff, and just about all of the Weekend Updates were written by him...(including Dennis Miller's WU stint...which is why everybody thought he was a liberal, but he's just an actor).

...but wasn't aware of how much of SNL he wrote. It would appear that he saved the boring stuff for himself, or he has a bad delivery.

9. Randi Rhodes anchors a 3hr segment...

...and she is interesting, engaging, humorous, pro-labor liberal, and an experienced professional who has been doing 3hr segments on AM radio (and her #s were better than rush gasbag who had the segment immediately preceding hers). Al Franken and some of the others have NO experience in radio, and may fall short. 3hrs is a LONG time to be ON. Randi is up to the task.

Have you all read any of his books? They're (especially
Lies) extremely entertaining. Look at what he's
named his radio show...."O'Franken." Very clever.

Franken will have no trouble keeping his show
interesting, IMO.

...I think he'll do just fine.

He despises the likes of O'Reilly, Limbaugh and Hannity and isn't afraid of them.
