Another Republican Myth : Condi Rice Is A Foreign Policy Expert
..of the highest magnitude. She is a "national treasure', as one right-wing caller said on C-SPAN call-in show this morning. The fact is that it is all a myth.

She was supposedly very knowledgeable about the Soviet Union. But the Soviet Union no longer exists. We live in a different world. I have no problem believing that she did not know who al Qaeda was, as Richard Clarke noted in his book.

She was a mistake. When the Repubs put George W Bush into the White House with their coup, they knew that he was not that knowledgeable about foreign affairs. But, they insisted, he would have the best people around him to help make decisions.

And if there was one position that George W Bush needed help with, it was with the National Security position. He chose Condileeza Rice. We should have known our nation was at threat at that moment. Two incompetents sharing information about our nations security.

The sad fact is that Condi Rice may have been the best "Sovietologist" in the world but in todays world, she is an incompetent. To prevent her incompetence from being made public, Bush is requesting of her to not testify under oath to the 9/11 Commission. America could not handle the truth.

2. Upholds the notion that this misadmin
is really a retread of all the same old tired conservative ideals. Witness Clarke's "frozen in amber" comment.

'Course, thanks to PNAC, now we all know it's a retread on steroids.

While I was pleased she was a nonwhite person, early on I read one Washington wag (at Slate I think) describe her as "Brent Skowcroft in the body of a black woman." Wish I could remember who that was.

And you know what's funny? She doesn't seem to care especially about the now ex USSR either. She hasn't said boo about Chechnya, which you would think she would know about.

A case of "affirmative ineptitude" just like the Chimp...
He got the job because he failed upwards as a connected rich boy. She got the job because she is minority lackey and put a good "face" on this half-assed junta.

6. None of them are experts on anything
Not Condi, not Rove,, Cheney or Bush. They are ideologues who staged an American coup. From the first I said they were a bunch of amateurs where it came to the actual business of government, public or foreign policy. Like most right wing ideologues they were and are, strangely provincial in their outlook vis a vis the rest of the world. Bush had practically no travel experience outside the US--unusual for a man with so much money. Consequently, the bunch of them behave like the proverbial frogs in a pond who think their pond is the world.

For all her "expertise" on the Soviet Union Condi, like a lot of right wing academics, is locked into a narrow field of specialization that probably has her wearing blinders where everything else is concerned. Their presence not only in the US but on the world stage has got to be one of the most tragic moments in our history.

8. i heard the caller say she was
Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 09:17 AM by justsam
a national treasure and thought the caller was on some good dope or just an idiot.. Bush and his gang gave her the job because she's an minority and they thought it made them look better..I don't believe she's really an insider with PNAC that is controlling Bush and if she would testify under oath, it would probably come out that she don't know salt from pepper..Could be the reason for the stall by the WH..they may be giving her a crash coarse on what is happening and what did happen and what was said..

10. a dumb loyal dog who will
die for you, is better than a smart one with teeth who might bite
you one day (clarke). Heck, what kind of expert in anything that
might require scientific thinking could possibly be a literalist
stupid bible idiot.

Of course the shrubbery picked her. She's too ugly to objectify as
a female sex object, and thus will fit in fine with a bunch of
racist, sexist fat pigs.

She's just like one of farmer jone's pigs. (from orwell's animal
farm)

11. Good analysis -- especially your fourth paragraph
And if there was one position that George W Bush needed help with, it was with the National Security position. He chose Condileeza Rice. We should have known our nation was at threat at that moment. Two incompetents sharing information about our nations security.

It rings true. Foreign policy started becoming lurching, erratic, and arrogant the minute Bush took office -- almost like a child driving a car with Sunday-only driver "nanny" at his side telling him where to go.

I'm glad to see Rice finally getting the negative attention she deserves. She is nothing but a spin doctor.
