Serious quesion: Who is the Bush Admin Terrorism guy NOW?
So, we know that Richard Clarke was their point man, and he left when he decided that they were not serious about terrorism. His replacement, Rand Beers, also left the administration, and is now working for the Kerry campaign.

So, who's their guy now? Do they HAVE a terrorism person? Why haven't they brought their new guy in front of the press, to say how wonderful things are going?

1. That is a good question
The one who came immediately after has quit already, and I don't know who is doing it now.

3. You should send this question to the new channels and reporters
although I can't believe they haven't thought of it themselves.

(Well, maybe I can believe it)

2. Huckleberry Hound
he is a loyal assistant to condi rice; not expected to say too much; keeps to himself. The administration has him on a short leash. Doesn't mind being demoted, just throw him a bone.

11. Excellent question...
I wondered this myself, especially after the fallout of the 9/11 investigation this past week, you'd think that they Misadministration would be playing damage control and building this individual up with his/her credentials as the new 'czar' on terrorism...

13. I know Ridge is head of "Homeland Security"
but I would assume they should still have a head person or two who have taken on the job that Clarke and Beers did. Shouldn't there be someone who is their head "Al Qaeda" guy? Head of counterterrorism defense? International threat analyst? Something?

Where are their head counterterrorism people? Shouldn't they be showing us how competent they are? Especially when they're trashing their previous people?

the National Director and Deputy National Security Advisor for Combatting Terrorism

Rice and Powell make the announcement. Both praise Clarke

16. Actually, he's gone, too!
Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 07:25 PM by Sparky McGruff
I just looked him up in the "disinfopedia", and was pointed to this:

General Wayne A. Downing, U.S. Army (Ret.), has resigned his position as Deputy Assistant to the President, National Director and Deputy National Security Advisor for Combating Terrorism. Coming out of retirement, General Downing joined the National Security Council staff in October,2001 with a mandate to organize and staff the NSC's Office of Combating Terrorism and the Office of Homeland Security's Intelligence and Detection Directorate following the attacks of September 11. ...

General Downing will be replaced by General John A. Gordon, USAF (Ret.). General Gordon joins the National Security Council staff from the Department of Energy where he served as the Under Secretary for Nuclear Security and Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

Sounds like Gen. Gordon may still be around... Google news shows his name in some general press releases, but it doesn't look like he's come out to address the serious and real concerns raised by Clarke.

17. One helluva good question.
Since, according to Dick Cheney, the Administration kept Clarke, their highest-ranking counter-terrorism official, "out of the loop," who, exactly, is in the loop now???
